LINDA MARIE SMITH

(nee RIGBY)

December 6, 1942 - May 13, 2024

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Linda Marie Smith, on her own terms on Monday, May 13.

Linda leaves to mourn her cousins: the Allenby family of Winnipeg, the Ward family of Saskatchewan, and the Frey family of Michigan, USA; sister-in-law Carol Smith; nephews and nieces, Dave Rigby (Erin) of Calgary, Barbara Brown of Steinbach, Shelly Fletcher and Kevin Smith of Winnipeg and their respective families. Linda was most recently predeceased by her brother Lloyd Rigby in 2021.

Linda was a lifelong Winnipegger attending Linwood School followed by St. James Collegiate where she graduated in 1960. She began her 39-year career in the insurance business in 1960 with Smith, Fess & Denison, retiring from Aon in 1999.

In her early adult years, Linda was an avid 5-pin bowler and then transitioned into lawn bowling in her later years. She loved country music, her annual vacations to Las Vegas with family and friends and her many weeks in the Arizona sun visiting her brother and their many common friends.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family, especially when we could all do so on the shores of Lake Winnipeg at the family property. She loved routine and there was nothing better at the cabin than BBQ burgers on Fridays and steak on Saturdays followed by hours of robust board and card games until the early hours of the morning.

Both Linda and the family would like to acknowledge and thank the amazing staff at MKC for their support, caring and kindness during her few years there and especially in her final weeks.

Adhering to Linda’s wishes there will be no service. A private family interment will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice.
