BETH MARGOLIS MORTON

It is with immense sorrow and heartbreak, we announce the passing of Beth, surrounded by family, on May 11, 2024.

She is survived by her cherished children, son Zach Morton (Fallon) and daughter Vanessa Rose (Morgan); dog Molly whom she adored; siblings, Ron Margolis (Debbie) and del Margolis; and mother-in-law Judy Morton. Beth was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Lois Margolis.

Born in Winnipeg, on October 31st, 1965, Beth grew up in River Heights. She excelled in school and sports, specifically track and field. She enjoyed afternoons spent shooting hoops with her older brother Ron, and playing piano with her younger sister del. Beth made many friends during her school years, especially at Grant Park, that she remained close with throughout her life. She enjoyed many adventures, experiences, and made lasting memories with them.

During high school, Beth’s beloved father helped her get a data entry job at Imperial Agencies. This sparked her fascination in computers, and served as a catalyst for her successful career in IT. Additionally, it allowed her to share the candy sample room with her friends.

After completing her Computer Analyst Programming diploma at RRC in 1988, Beth was hired by Safeway as an IT Developer. Before long, she was a well-liked and respected manager, then director, before moving to Investors Group. Throughout her career she made many lasting friendships and connections.

All while juggling her growing career, Beth managed to run three half marathons, and became an attentive, ever-loving Mother. First to Zach, born in the fall of 1994, then to Vanessa, born in the summer of 1997. Beth loved spending weekends and summers with her kids at the lake. She instilled her affection for travel in her children from a young age with cherished vacations to Tofino, Disney World, Mexico, Whistler, The Grand Canyon, Australia, and New Zealand. Beth provided her children with unwavering support and endless love.

Following her successful IT career, Beth retired in 2017. She spent her time pursuing many hobbies, both old and new. Some of her favourites were kayaking, dogsitting, hiking through many forests, painting, riding her motorcycle, playing canasta, and especially tennis. Just like other stages of her life, Beth easily made new friendships while cherishing her old ones. Alongside her other hobbies, Beth travelled to many special places and would gleefully recall trips made with friends to BC, Utah, Antelope Canyon, the Black Hills, Iguazu Falls, Ushuaia, and Milford Sound.

In the Spring of 2023, Beth moved into a new apartment alongside her sister del. She was thrilled to deepen her connection with del and create a new circle of friends together. She enjoyed glasses of wine on the balcony, and many walks through the nearby Assiniboine Forest and Fort Whyte.

Beth was an optimist. She cared deeply about those around her and went out of her way to help in any way she could. She spent time volunteering at CancerCare, Agape Table and Rainbow Resource Centre.

Her family is grateful for the physicians, nurses, and support staff of the Palliative Care Program, and Riverview Health Centre, as well as Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Beth's life, accessible through the 'tributes' link at the bottom of this obituary.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 1 at 603 Wellington Crescent.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Beth’s name to RaY (Resource Assistance for Youth - Winnipeg), Riverview Health Centre, or a charity of your choice.
