LINDA LOUISE LOEWEN

November 28, 1949 - May 27, 2024

Our beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother Linda passed away on May 27.

She is survived by the love of her life for 51 years, Karl; son Matt (Christine); granddaughter Cassie; daughter Lora (Jim); step-grandchildren, Nena, Tawnya (Luke), Julian; siblings, Wilfrid (Joan), Edna (Lucien), Françoise (Raymond), Venise (Don); sisters-in-law, Marilyn, Paulette; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leopold and Cecile Régnier; brothers, François, Orval, Luc; brother-in-law Gerry; and step-grandson Ashton.

Linda grew up in St. François-Xavier, the fifth child of eight. As a teenager, she survived a bout of Beatlemania, and although not a fan of school, she was smitten with Pierre Trudeau. That is, until she met the manly Mennonite Karl Loewen in 1972, whom she married the following spring. Together they worked on their farm while raising two "perfect" children. During the 1980s the family resided on Vancouver Island, and Linda took on the task of homeschooling.

Linda loved reading, live theatre, and traveling. She embarked on many cruises with Karl, ultimately visiting 70 countries. But her favourite place to be was at the family cottage on the shore of Lake Manitoba, where she spent 30 memorable summers. Linda had a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh. She believed in equality and inclusion, and helping those in need. In her spare time, she volunteered at the Salvation Army food bank, and PAWS animal shelter in Portage la Prairie, where she literally took her work home with her, adopting four cats.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence for their compassion.

At Linda's request, there will be no formal service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local animal rescue.
