Gwen died peacefully at the Women’s Hospital in Winnipeg on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, after a short and brave fight with cancer. She was surrounded by loving family.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Ab and Betty Clarke. Left to mourn her passing are sisters, Linda Dyck, Frances Cearns, and Evelyn Malyon; nieces and nephews, Miles Cearns (Lauren), Haley Cearns (Josh) and Connor Malyon; great-niece and nephews, Emmett and Evah Brown, and Harrison and Walker Cearns; many cousins; family members; and friends.
Gwen was born in Roseisle Manitoba and moved with family to Winnipeg at nine years old. She attended Roseisle School, Mulvey, Gordon Bell, Golden Gate and graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate in 1966. Gwen got involved in the IT field in its infancy and progressed steadily through her career spending the last 25 years in her dream job as a successful IT Project Manager at IBM. Gwen was an outstanding golfer, playing for many years out of Breezy Bend in Winnipeg. One of her crowning achievements as a golfer was hitting a hole in one at Breezy Bend. She played on the Manitoba Women’s team, another significant achievement for a local golfer. Gwen was an avid curler over the years, playing on many victorious teams. She took a piece of all our hearts with her.
The family expresses sincere thanks to the team supporting Gwen through her journey at CancerCare and the Women’s Hospital.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024 at the Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita Street.

I have known Gwen for many years, shared a lot of good times and memories curling in Bonspiels, golfing at Breezy Bend and travelling to Hawaii and Florida on holidays. Gwen was always one to remember a special occasion with a call or card and kept in touch with many friends and acquaintances from years gone by. I met Gwen about 45 years ago when she worked at Price Waterhouse and I at an IT supplier. Over the years our paths crossed several times and we found we had many mutual acquaintances and memories. She joined IBM while I was working there and we and a couple of others formed the Meeting of the Minds, an excuse to meet monthly at the Silver Heights Restaurant for a drink and to solve the world's problems. Gwen was the consummate Project Manager sought after by the IBM teams supporting their biggest clients, she was determined, pragmatic and tough when she had to be - no detail escaped her but above all she had a great sense of humour.
