KENNETH (KEN) POOLE

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth (Ken) Poole, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Ken passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice, with his family by his side, on June 2, 2024, at age 85.

Ken shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Judith (née Lenton). Together, they raised two sons, Daniel (Karen, née Dottori) and Gordon (Lysane Bolduc). Ken was incredibly proud of his grandsons, Jérémy and Elliot Poole, who brought immense joy to his life.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ken was predeceased by his parents, Robert Poole and Emily Poole (née Talbot), Judy’s parents, Gerald and Thelma Lenton, his nine siblings: Edie (George), Dolly (Bob), Lil (Gibb), Lorraine (Joe), Arlene (Ed), Allison (Jim), Bob (Bea), Allan (Anne), and Lawrence, his sister-in-law Gale, and brothers-in-law, Paul and Bruno. He is survived by his wife, children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, as well as brother-in-law Tom (Andrea), brother-in-law Peter, sisters-in-law, Pat and Bonnie, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family.

Ken dedicated 25 years of his career to the University of Manitoba, where he filled numerous roles in Employee Relations and served as the Director of Human Resources until his retirement in 1994. During his 30 years of retirement, he enjoyed indulging in his passions and spending quality time with his loved ones.

Ken cherished his annual fishing trips with good friends and close family. He loved golfing, taking long walks in the zoo, making wine, tending to his impressive vegetable garden, cooking and baking, enjoying his extensive music library, and, most importantly, spending time with the love of his life, Judy, sitting by the fire and playing their daily game of cards. Together, they also enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren, cruising and vacationing in the south, and shared four memorable trips to Europe. For 20 years, Ken and Judy hosted friends and family at their cottage at Hillsisde Beach, which Ken proudly finished himself.

Ken’s life will be celebrated at a service held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Saturday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m.

The family extends special thanks to all the staff at the Grace Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation in support of the Grace Hospice, or CancerCare Manitoba in Ken’s memory.

Ken, Dad, Grandpa, you will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

  • On behalf in the Wyant family, my sincere condolences to Judy and the entire family. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Ken and Judy numerous times over the years mostly in Gord and Lysane’s backyard when they’d visit for summer, or watching their grandchildren play hockey in the winter months.
