DENNIS EARL MULLIGAN

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather on May 30, 2024, at Stonewall Hospital.

He will be deeply missed by daughter Betty Munro (Cam), son Ken (Sharon), son Leonard; grandchildren, Angie (Adam Janssens), Jeff (Amanda), Ashley (Ben Elskamp), Kaleigh (Mark Oliver) and Steven (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Abby, Natileigh, Jake, Liam, Arianna, Carver, Austin, Burke, Ryleigh, Rhett and Ella. He is also survived by his sister Pat Blair and brothers-in-law, John Magas (Trudy) and Bill Magas and sister-in-law Darlene Racz as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Olga (Magas) on July 15, 2023.

Dad was born on August 10, 1935, in Winnipeg to Kenneth and Dorothy (Stoutenberg) Mulligan. He grew up on the family farm just west of Rosser with his mom, dad, brother and two sisters. He had many good lifelong friends and enjoyed reminiscing with them from time to time. He met the love of his life, Olga, at a barn dance at Mom's farm in Stony Mountain and they were married on August 10, 1955. They initially lived in Winnipeg, where he worked as a delivery man, then moved into the village of Rosser a year later to work on the family farm with his Mom and Dad. They later moved up to the farm, taking it over upon his parents' retirement. Mom and Dad farmed for many years together, while raising their family. They continued to farm with Ken and Jeff and be involved on the farm right up until his passing as he was always concerned with what was happening on the farm. They had moved to Winnipeg for a few years, making it easier for Mom to get around as she didn't drive, until their love of the farm drew them back to live across the road from the farm site. Farming was Dad's passion and he never really retired, as he was always watching the activities happening across the road when he wasn't busy cutting grass in his park-like yard. Dad was very proud that Mulligan Farms is 107 years old and always hoped the farm would stay in the family for generations to come.

Dad was always so proud of all his family's accomplishments. Family was most important to Dad and chocolate bars were always on hand for visits from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dad was always willing to help neighbours with harvest and other farming activities. He was involved with politics, and enjoyed curling, bingo, winter and summer fairs, time spent at Clear Lake, fishing at Lee River, doing Word Searches (with his magnifying glass as his eyesight was failing in recent years) and listening to the Polka Party after playing Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo every Saturday night. He was very community-minded, helping out whenever he could. After Mom passed, he enjoyed his weekly drives and dinners out with his sister Pat.

Dad and Mom enjoyed a couple of trips to Las Vegas and one year with their bingo winnings, treated themselves to a trip to BC with good friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Pallbearers are Jeff Mulligan, Adam Janssens, Ben Elskamp, Mark Oliver, Rick Hogg and Perry Blair. Honorary pallbearers are Dad's great-grandchildren, Abby, Natileigh, Jake, Liam, Arianna, Carver, Austin, Burke, Ryleigh, Rhett and Ella.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and health care aides at the Stonewall Hospital for their kindness and care given to Dad during his stay. Also, we want to thank the home care staff and nurses who cared for Dad at home. Dad continually commented on how well he was cared for.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.
