It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our loving father Dino Liakakis on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the age of 92. Born June 1, 1931, in Vlahioti, Lakonias, Greece, he immigrated to Canada in 1959 where he met and married his wife, Dina Liakakis.
Dino was predeceased by his wife Dina, father Dimitri Liakakis, mother Maria (Mitrakos), brothers, Niko, Thanassi, and George, and sisters, Afroditi (Panagioti), Pitsa (Haralampi) and Anna (George). Dad will be forever cherished and missed by his daughters, Maria Liakakis, and Katerina Dawson (Don); grandchildren, John Andromidas (Nickie), Georgia Carrette (Darren), Alexandria Dawson, and Anthony Dawson; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Anna, Julien, Nick, Tony and John; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad immigrated to Canada in 1959 where he worked as a tailor and then purchased the Thunderbird Drive Inn on St. Mary’s Road, which he owned for over 30 years. He then retired and enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Nikolaos Tambakis presiding. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers are John Andromidas, Anthony Dawson, Darren Carrette, Peter D. Ginakes, Dino Ginakes, and Peter P. Ginakes.
