ALICE FAIRBAIRN

(nee KORCHAK)

March 13, 1927 - June 5, 2024

Alice Fairbairn, aged 97, peacefully passed away with her family by her side at Park Manor Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank in 2010, and by her daughter, Judy in 2019. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her long life are her daughter, Janet, son Robert (Roger), granddaughter Angela Cave (Sam), and great-grandchildren Griff and Romy. Mum came from a very large family and is survived by her remaining siblings Steve and Tillie, as well as numerous extended family members.

Born in rural Manitoba (Zoria), a full education was sacrificed to support the family farm. She later moved to Winnipeg to find a life for herself in a new and exciting urban center. Initially, she worked in a restaurant and then at a garment factory. It was not long, and she met Dad at a dance, and they were married in 1957 and settled in Transcona. Mum took immense pride in living independently in her own home until a few months before her passing.

As a devoted stay-at-home provider, Mum also worked part-time at Woolco Dept Store in the fabrics department. Her creativity and strong work ethic led her to tackle many DIY projects alongside her close companions, Lil and Chris. Her exuberant creativity fueled many crafts and ongoing projects. With a delightful sense of humor and unwavering resolve, Mum made her mark.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street.

The family would like to express their gratitude to those health care providers both at home and Park Manor that gave our mother the best care.

Flowers gratefully declined in lieu of; donations may be made to Park Manor Personal Care Fundraiser - Backyard Revitalization project.

  • On behalf of my mother Tillie (Olga's sister) we are sending our deepest condolences with the passing of your mum. She will be missed, especially her sense of humor during the video chatting visits the two sisters have had. My mother mentioned that when Olga and Frank came to Calgary for a visit, their favorite place to go was Swiss Chalet. Always a great evening. Also, a time when my mom, their sister-in-law Anne met up with Olga in Dauphin/Sifton area, they didn't get to bed too early those nights because they were talking and laughing all night. Hugs and Love, Tillie, Bev & Dwayne and Family - Posted by: Tillie Medwid (Sister) on: Jun 10, 2024

  • Sincere condolences to Janet and Robert, and Roger too, regarding my Aunt and also my Godmother's passing. My first memories of her date back to the 1950's when she left the farm in Sifton to come live in the "big" city with us (family of six), in our three room house in the North end of Winnipeg. I remember her as a strong, but very kind and caring, independent woman. We'll miss you Auntie, but we know that you are playing "Hola" with Cassie now. - Posted by: Clarence Drebit (Nephew) on: Jun 10, 2024

  • I remember my aunt as a beautiful thoughtful person. She lived with us for awhile in Winnipeg. Memories of her joking around with my mother as they cooked together are the best. I missed her when she moved and started her life with Uncle Frank. When my husband passed she was the first to phone me and offer her condolences. I knew her as Auntie Olga and that's how I will remember her. Bless you Auntie Olga. May you rest in peace and watch over us. Love you Dolores.💞 - Posted by: Dolores St Germain (Niece) on: Jun 10, 2024

  • There are so many stories one can tell about my aunt and I’m sure she had many she could tell about us. She was a strong pillar of faith and love for our family as we grew up. Her helpful and caring attitude was easily passed to her family and friends. My condolences to the family and love to Aunty. - Posted by: Janice Beckles (Niece) on: Jun 09, 2024
