MARTIN FRIESEN

At the age of 89, surrounded by family and song, Dad passed away at Concordia Hospital on June 5, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Veronica, daughter Debra, granddaughter Sonia, and son Robert (Katie). Predeceased by son Gordon.

Dad’s life was marked by a joy so pure that many, from family to friends to strangers alike, remarked on his happiness. Whether he was contemplating the stars above or reflecting on Manitoban fields of gold, Dad’s life asked for wonder.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield St N, Winnipeg, with lunch. Interment to follow at Springstein Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I remember Martin as a very young man and to me he looked like a movie star, I was 5 years old. He was working for my Dad, John Arondeus, as an electrician. My father's shop was in the basement of our house and each morning the workers would come in and I was always there to greet them. I ran into Martin many times during the next 65 odd years and he always had that beautiful smile that made you feel that you were special. My condolences to his family - Posted by: Judy Rempel (Arondeus) (Long time acquaintance ) on: Jun 29, 2024

  • I'm saddened to hear of uncle Martin's passing. He was a very special uncle and I have fond memories of him and all the monthly, or so phone calls he would grace me with. We would chat about life, family and how everything was going for me and him and all my relatives in Manitoba. I like in Saskatoon, Sk. so I'm not able to be there for the funeral, but he was a very special uncle and will be missed deeply. Love to everyone! • Veronica, it has been several years since we shared the back church pew with you. And how we have missed those Sunday mornings. And now, Martin's smile will greet us no more. However, he is not forgotten. You will face a lonely tomorrow, knowing Martin is in God's Hands. He will carry you and Debbie, Rob and Katie. BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD We are so sad for your loss. Victor and Linda Sawatzky - Posted by: Victor and Linda Sawatzky (Church Friends) on: Jun 10, 2024

I had moved to steinbach already and he was telling me that you Ronnie and him had put your names in at Concordia village. I had a few clients at CV. they are a great community. I would often walk from my place on Concordia to your place on a Sunday afternoon for Faspa. Praying for you , and one day we will see him again. I now live at woodhaven manor in steinbach.
