NORMA JOYCE BAKER

November 11, 1942 – May 30, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce that Norma passed away on May 30 in St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81.

She is survived by her children, Emily, Doug, and Keith (Sabrina); grandchildren, David, Bre, Michelle (Steven), Artemis, Danielle, Ashley (Peter), Victoria, Nicole; siblings, Gladys and her children, Charlie, Laura, and David (Anja); Arlene and her children, Carrie and Lamont; and ex-husband Bill (Laura). She is predeceased by her three brothers, Robert, Keith, and Harvey.

Norma was an extremely generous woman and touched many people with her love and kindness. She believed every person deserves a friend and always strived to see the best in people, even when they didn’t see it in themselves.

The family expresses gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Norma's life, accessible through the ‘tributes’ link at the bottom of this obituary. They also express gratitude to the staff at Riverwood Square for their assistance, and the entire palliative care team at St. Boniface Hospital.

A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 613 St. Mary’s Road (St. Mary’s Road United Church). As Norma had a strong dislike for the colour Black, we invite anyone wishing to attend to wear their favourite brightest colours in her honour.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honour to your favourite charity (her personal favourites were the Alzheimer Society and Siloam Mission).

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I have known Norma for most of my life, she has always been one of the kindest people I have ever known. She was a lovely person and the world is a better place because she was in it. - Posted by: Elaine Lally (Simpson) (Family friend ) on: Jul 01, 2024

  • My condolences to the family of Norma Baker. I valued the friendship of Norma at St. Mary's Road United Church. She contributed in many ways to the life and work of the church -- a faithful member, preparation of communion elements, preparation of "tea essence" for our fellowship times, a member of the church book club, etc. I was a member of the book club together with Norma. She was often the "reader" of the book when we got together and had such a clear and good voice. I miss her presence at church. - Posted by: Clare Simpson (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2024

  • Norma and I were part of the bread baking group at SMRUC for many years and Norma lead the group for several years. We would bake bread for the monthly communion, all the while talking, reminiscing and getting to know each other better. Norma was a big part of the church family. She will be truly missed. May God be with you till we meet again, Norma. - Posted by: Louise Dahle (Friend) on: Jun 22, 2024
