Mom passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband Herman, oldest daughter Kathy, and both parents.
Mom is survived by her children, Larry (Susan), Sandra, Gerald (Susan), Randy (Iona), and Kenny; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; along with two sisters.
Mom was born in Moosehorn, Manitoba to Edmund and Gwendoline Makus. She moved to Eden, Manitoba with her family to work in the family business, later settling in Winnipeg. Mom enthusiastically talked about her years on the farm. At age 15 Mom took the train to Grand Beach where she began her career in the hospitality industry at the Grand Beach Hotel. Mom and Dad married in Winnipeg in 1955 and remained in Winnipeg all their life.
In retirement, Mom planted and harvested the garden, baked treats for the family, and embroidered. Mom retired in the house where she was always available to listen to her family and dispense support and advice. Mom’s happiest times were spent with small children.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
