It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister on June 25, 2024 at 83 years of age.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Fernando, and her memory will be forever cherished by her children: Fernando (Josie), Sandra (Ian); her beloved granddaughters, Jordyn (Justin), Braedyn (Mitch) and Delia; her great-grandchildren, Kallen and Griffin, her sister and extended family in Portugal.
Maria Julia was born in Arruda dos Vinhos, but lived in Morgado, Portugal. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and family in 1972, and provided a loving home for their children and later on for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maria Julia was a woman who always put her family first and was happiest when spending time with her family laughing and playing with her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting blankets and various doilies for her children and granddaughters, gardening in her backyard, and baking with her granddaughters. She appreciated classic Portuguese movies and was always ready for a road trip to various Manitoba locations. She enjoyed the simplicity of life and was happiest in the company of her family and beloved husband who she missed every day.
We will miss our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but we are grateful for the time we had to spend with her.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all the wonderful caregivers at Beacon Hill who provided Mom with comfort and loving care during the last several months.
There will be a private family service followed by entombment at the Holy Angels Mausoleum in Green Acres Cemetery.
