It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom and Nanny due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Being the youngest of four children, Mom lived a quiet life in the West End of Winnipeg with no extra relatives since her parents were the only family who immigrated to Canada.
As a child, she loved to climb trees, swing on a trapeze, swim at Sherbrook Pool, and roller skate at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. Learning to sew at age 10 began a lifetime of sewing her own dresses, clothes for her daughter and many beautiful quilts that she lovingly stitched until she could no longer hold the needle.
Her first job at 15 was a fur machine operator. Being surrounded by the constant odor of mothballs led her to seek office work, which was a better situation. Alongside our aunts, Mom packaged chocolates at Bond and Ronald and stomped grapes in Grandpa’s basement much like Lucy and Ethel did. She had an amazing memory for numbers which made her an excellent switchboard operator at the Grain Exchange.
It was while walking home from work one day that she was introduced to a very tall, blond man named Russ. They married in 1953, raised three children, did volunteer work and travelled as retirees to many places around the world. Mom and Dad had 69 years of adventures before Dad passed in September of 2022.
Mom has been ill since 2016 and has decided to stop the suffering by making the courageous decision to use MAiD. Her children, Glenda, Jeff (wife Susan), Craig (wife Laura) and grandsons, Brent and Logan were with her to say their goodbyes.
There will be no service. Cremation has taken place. We love you, Mom. We will miss you.

I remember Craig's Mom well. Every summer night at 9pm sharp she would blow a whistle to get Craig to come home. My condolences to the family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Ron Serbin (Friend of her son) on: Jun 30, 2024
