Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE (KAY) MALENKI
Peacefully, Katherine (Kay) Malenki (Stecky) passed away at Charleswood Care Centre on June 19, 2024.
Kay was predeceased by her husband William (Bill); her parents, Anne and John Stecky; her brothers, Matt, Peter and Nick, and her sisters, Elsie and Mary.
Lovingly remembered by her three children, Brian (Donna), Brenda (Don) and Robert (Sharon); and grandchildren, William (Leah), Gina, Alyssa (Jesse), Breanna and Peyton. Survived by her brother Ron (Sonia); sisters, Lena, Ollie, Helen and numerous nephews and nieces.
Kay was born in Zhoda, Manitoba and grew up on her family’s farm. She later moved to Winnipeg where she met and married Bill and raised their family. She was employed at various jobs and then took time to stay at home while her children were younger. She returned to work in 1970 and worked part time at Sears catalog counter until her retirement. Kay was an avid bowler and she bowled in two different leagues for decades. She could fill an entire room with all the trophies she earned over the years.
After her retirement, Kay kept herself busy by babysitting all of her grandchildren. She never said no to spending time with them, and they were her greatest pride and joy. Her home was like a day care which was filled with games, toys and snacks.
Kay will be remembered as a caring and loving family person. She was the greatest cook and would always make holiday meals special. There was always room at the table for an extra person. She was the original “hockey mom”, who was her children’s biggest fan; getting up at all hours and attending all games and functions. She loved watching sports and followed hockey, football, baseball and curling.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for the care they provided for Kay during her time there.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I bowled with Kay for many, many years and besides being a great bowler, she was a wonderful person. We had many fun banquets when our husbands joined us and we also attended some of our private milestones together. We missed her when she stopped bowling and I will always think of Kay with fondness! - Posted by: Hanne Hansen (friend) on: Jul 06, 2024
