ROBERT SINCLAIR

June 19, 1922 - June 26, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we must observe the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather on June 26, 2024, at the age of 102. Dad was predeceased by his adored wife Lena in 2000; his parents, Janet and James Sinclair; and six siblings.

The following is a Dad-approved summation of the life of a hardworking family man who loved to have fun.

We will have to make a long story very short, Dad grew up on the streets of Elmwood with his brothers and pals, providing him with lots of anecdotes to entertain us with. He voluntarily served our country overseas during the Second World War. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife and our Mom Lena, the love of his life and constant companion during their 54 years of marriage.

He supported his family working in the printing trade, rarely taking a day off over the decades. He leaves three children, Roberta, James (Kathy) and Janet (Charley) Colatruglio; along with five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren who loved and looked up to him and who, in the days when he was spry, delighted in his fun personality and silly jokes. He was admired by his extended family, nieces, nephews, family friends and everyone who met him even briefly - at his regular restaurants over the years, his slot machine dens, the Selkirk Legion and his favourite vegetable stands. You have to be pretty special to be liked and admired by everyone you meet. Then there was his reputation for being the life of the party, but we won’t tell tales.

Dad lived all these years as a loving, honourable, hardworking and fun-loving, congenial human being. He was always there for us when we needed his help. He was the very best, and we will miss him always.

Thank you to the caregivers who did their best to engage with him and keep him comfortable over the last few months of his life. He appreciated the care and attention he received at both the Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy (Universal Unitarian Church).

The family expresses gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their touching photo-biography video honouring Robert’s life, accessible through the 'tributes' link at the bottom of this obituary.

  • Bob was the best neighbor there was. Always remembered our names and said" hey hey hey how's it going Bob? He and Lena planted a tree on the same day I was born and it's still standing strong. You will be missed Bob. - Posted by: Megan Hildebrand (Neighbor ) on: Jul 06, 2024
