FREDRICKA (RICKI) HENDRICKA PLOEGMAN
On Monday, July 22, 2024 Fredricka (Ricki) Hendricka Ploegman, loving mother of four children and grandmother of 11, passed away at the age of 73.
Ricki was born on February 2, 1951 in Ommen, Netherlands to Herman and Alice (Breukelman) Jaspers. She immigrated to Canada at the age of three with her family and spent most of her youth working on the family’s dairy farm near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. On June 19, 1971, she married Peter Ploegman in Winnipeg, Manitoba and they began their life together there. They raised two daughters, Angela (Iowa) and Shannon (Winnipeg), and two sons, Kevin (East St. Paul) and Nolan (East St. Paul).
Ricki was determined to provide the best future she could for her children and encouraged them to have high expectations and set lofty goals for themselves. She worked many jobs, before settling on working off shifts in a bank computer processing center for the majority of her working years. Regardless of her work hours, she always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which led her to found a small business making and installing draperies. In retirement, Ricki took that business background and applied it to her hobbies, making and selling paint poured keepsakes and jewelry at craft fairs. In addition she enjoyed traveling and most of all, spending time with her family.
Ricki was preceded in death by her husband Peter; father Herman; and mother Alice. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Angela (Suresh), Shannon (Marino Ted, deceased), Kevin (Christy), Nolan (Rachel), and 11 grandchildren, Madisyn, Devon, Morgan, Maia, Anders, Alex, Marika, Anika, Logan, Cali and Sadie.
Her memory will continue to be honored by her 11 siblings: Minnie, Fritz (Theresa), Ina (Arthur, deceased), Harry (Karen), Alice (Blair), Faye (Dick), Susan (Gerald), Edna (Gerald), Lloyd (Sharon), Lucy (Martin, deceased), and Ron (Cheryl).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society: (https://www.cancer.ca/en/donate/?region=on).
