Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLENNA MAE SEXTON
Peacefully on July 17, 2024, Glenna Sexton passed away at the age of 83 at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Glenna will be missed by her husband, David; sons, Jeffrey (Alison), Brian (Amanda); daughter Deanna (Ryan); granddaughters, Courtney and Haley; numerous nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Glenna was predeceased by her mother Ida; father Glen; and sisters, June and Miriam.
Glenna was born in Climax, Saskatchewan and being the daughter of a bank manager, she moved often during her younger years. She arrived in Winnipeg at 17 years old to study nursing at the Children’s Hospital. She graduated in the class of 1961 and went on to work at the Children’s Hospital until her own children were born. She met David through a nursing classmate, and they were married for 61 years, an inspiration to us all!
Glenna enjoyed gardening, travel, reading, crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved planning and organizing big family dinners. She was very proud of the achievements of her children and grandchildren and was thrilled to attend the recent graduation of her youngest grandchild.
Glenna was an avid traveller and spent time in Europe, the Caribbean, Jamaica, Mexico, and the US over the years. Her favourite winter place to visit was Kona, Hawaii where she enjoyed the beauty of the ocean life and lush vegetation. Her favourite summer place was the family cottage at Sherwood Lake with her family and friends. Glenna spent many years singing barbershop music and was a founding member of the Assiniboine Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Glenna came alive with a sparkle in her eye when performing on stage and those who have heard her sing will never forget her rich bass voice.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff for her excellent care at the dialysis unit at the St. Boniface Hospital, her family physician, Dr. Kaler, and to the doctors and nurses at the ICU for their kindness and care during her last few days.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Voyage Funeral Home, 472 Kirkfield St. (formally Kirkfield Park United Church).
Donations can be made in Glenna’s memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.

Dear Dave, Jeff, Brian, Deanna and families, I am sure it has been difficult dealing with the loss of your wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a force to be reckoned with, even through the health challenges. I feel blessed to have known her for the last 38 years. She was kind and welcoming when I joined the Assiniboine Chorus; a group she gave so much to both musically and administratively. It was an honour and a privilege to have the opportunity to sing in a quartet with her and I'll always treasure my memories of our quartet, "String of Pearls". As much as I will miss Glenna, I know that my feelings of loss pale in comparison to what all of you must be feeling. Wishing you all peace and comfort as you navigate this enormous hole in your family unit and joy when you think of all the wonderful times you had with her. - Posted by: Christine Ross (Songmate of Glenna's) on: Aug 17, 2024
