JACK SCHREUDER

Jack Schreuder passed away in the presence of his family at the Riverview Palliative Care centre on the evening of July 29.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Corry in 2016; his father Johannes, his mother Anna Marie, his brother Gerard; sister-in-law Cootje, and his cousin Netty Morren. Jack is survived by his daughter Carolyn Brant; by his son Billy Brant (Bertha); grandchildren Ruth Brant (Dave), Jessica Cruickshank (Brant; great-grandchildren Ollie and Avy), William Brant, and Joseph Brant; by his niece Rachel Schreuder and other family members in the Netherlands.

Jack was born in Den Haag, the Netherlands, on November 14, 1940. He emigrated to Winnipeg in 1960. He worked as an orderly at the Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals (now Riverview Health Centre) for three years, saving money to enrol at the University of Manitoba from which he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1967. Reflecting his Dutch heritage, he commenced his career at the Manitoba Water Resources Branch, engaged in drainage and flood control projects. He took on progressively more senior government positions, rising to Executive Director of the Lands Branch. He retired in 2004.

Jack met the love of his life, Corry, in the early 1960s. They married in 1973 and lived a full and happy life together until her passing in 2016. They had an active social life, with many friends including a number in the local Dutch community with whom Jack established the Dutch Business & Professionals Club, of which he was President for many years. Jack and Corry did much travelling, including annual winter trips south, that culminated in purchasing a winter home in Largo, Florida.

They also made frequent trips to visit family in the Netherlands and UK.

Jack loved Corry's children Carolyn and Billy as his own. His legacy includes leading Billy into a career as a Civil Engineer, specialising in public water supply. The grandchildren adored him, and he supported them in many ways.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave.
