After a decades long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, it is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Judith (Judy) Shinkarik on August 9, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Judy is survived by her son Todd (Poly); beloved grandsons Jude and Ben; sisters Laurey (Gerry), Lesley and Nancy; and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout Canada. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Gladys Craig, sister Maureen, sister-in-law Paulette Shinkarik, and brothers-in-law Jim Orchard, Robert Shinkarik, and Jim Suggitt.
Judy was born on December 22, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg and very proud of that fact. Her formative years were spent primarily in the Norwood Flats area with her adult years spent in the Old St. Vital area. She was an active and social person and relished the many relationships she created in both of those communities over the years. Highlights of her summers were spent at the Craig chicken coop in Sandy Hook, she cherished the memories created there along with her parents and four sisters.
Judy was close to being a day one employee of CKND television. She took enormous pride in her many years there and the true and enduring friendships she shared with many colleagues.
Judy had a great sense of humour, sharp tongue, and the absolute inability to keep a secret, so if you wanted the word out, she was your first share. She was also a very kind, loving and generous person.
After her medical needs could no longer be supported at home, Judy reluctantly entered personal care for the last few years of her life. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all the staff of Misericordia Place and Meadowood Manor personal care homes for their excellence in understanding, mental health support, and medical care as we navigated this journey together.
To anyone wishing, please make a charitable contribution to MS Canada in Judy's honour to support and provide hope to those still experiencing this disease.
A private Celebration of Judy’s Life is planned for a later date.

Sincere condolences Todd and family. Judy was a great friend to our mom and family for over 40 years. I am grateful for the memories. I really enjoyed all of our phone conversations and all the “nicknames” she had for me whenever she would call the house or office. She was awesome and I Will miss her. - Posted by: Leonard Larner (Family friend) on: Aug 17, 2024
