DONALD FORBES STEWART

July 5, 1948 – September 10, 2024

Our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin, and good friend, Forbes Stewart, 76 years old of Warren, MB passed away suddenly at the place he loved the most, his home.

Forbes was born in Winnipeg, MB to Alex and Alfreda Stewart. He attended school in Warren, was very active in baseball, hockey and all high school sports. His number one passion, of course, was his family and a close second was waterfowl hunting. He met his wife, Bev, while playing baseball with the Melville Millionaires. They got married in 1969 and had their two children which meant more than the world to them, Dan (Shannon) and Daryl (Eric) Cowan, and then were blessed with his grandchildren, Emma, Kaden (Bobbie), Tessa, Alexis (Riley), and Dawson. They have all grown up near or on the farm and each had a special bond with their grandpa in their own way.

His legacy lives on through his passion for supporting his community in many different capacities such as coaching, sharing his love of nature, and spearheading initiatives. He will always be remembered with pride.

He started his career in recreation in Thompson, MB after coming home from training camp with the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a wonderful friendship with Alex Sutherland (Suds), and they became friends for life. With a career move to Selkirk’s Recreation Department and a return to living on the farm, Forbes was able to raise his family and be involved with all his pursuits.

Forbes also had an undeniable love for nature and started the Niska Game Farm. He was able to enjoy many years of retirement and lived out his days doing everything he loved. We are blessed for his presence in so many ways.

His Celebration of Life (a.k.a. his “Windup”) is planned for Thursday, October 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Warren Hall. Our tribute is planned for 2:00 p.m. with lunch to follow.

A big thank you to Grant Palmer and the paramedics. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations in his memory to be send to Ducks Unlimited Canada, for the Education Program, PO Box 1160 Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0.

Please join us in saying goodbye.

As long as I live, you will live.

As long as I live, you will be remembered.

As long as I live, you will be loved.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry for your loss. I remember Forbes coming home from camp and laying the law down on Cathy and myself. He was being the big brother and keeping his younger sister in line! He was a great community person and will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Wendy (friend) on: Sep 22, 2024

  • As a teenager I grew up on Bunn's Road in the 60's.The Stewart family have always been great friends and neighbours. Every fall my dad and I would help with the baling of the hay and the birth of the baby calves with Mel and Ian. Forbes and Bev are such beautiful people. My condolences go out to the Stewart family. May your soul rest in peace and your spirit be set free. - Posted by: Darcy Kisilowsky (neighbour) on: Sep 22, 2024
