With great sadness we share the passing of Siiri Hellin Vesa (née Ojala), at the age of 97 on September 19, 2024. Siiri was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother (Mummu), great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who touched the lives of many with her kindness and strength.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Aila (Rudy), Allan (Bunny) and Aliisa (Jeff); grandchildren Timo (Kim), Anita (Ian), Kathy (Ron), Michelle (Dion), Micheal (Chandra), Asta (Stephen), Kaarina (Mike), and Annikki (Devin); great-grandchildren Aaron (Courteney), Kirsi (Emily), Colyn (Destiny), Matthew (Lisa), Eric (Ashley), Allayna, Annalyse, Maisie, Walker, Nicole and Caitlin; great-great grandchildren Jacoby, Jonathan, Brookes, Alexander and Benjamin and many other family members and friends.
Siiri was born and raised in Finland, the eldest of 10 children. She was married to her loving husband of 68 years, Reino Vesa, until his passing in 2013. In 1959, Siiri and her husband made the courageous decision to move to Canada, seeking to provide a better life for their growing family. Together, they built a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.
She worked as a machinist assistant at Standard Aero before retiring to a peaceful cabin in Lac du Bonnet, where she spent her days surrounded by nature and the beauty of her gardens. Siiri loved to fish, cook, bake, knit, and sew, and she took great joy in entertaining her family and friends at her home. She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, always making sure her home was filled with warmth and laughter.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at East Gate Lodge for their compassionate care.
Siiri will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A service will be held to honour her memory at Abundant Life Chapel at 90 Fourth Street, Lac du Bonnet, MB on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Internment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada in Siiri’s name.

Aliisa, Aila, Allan, My heart just broke hearing the news of Siiri’s passing. I have had the pleasure of knowing and loving Siiri for 42 years, when Aliisa and I met at RRCC. There was so much to love about Siiri and I treasure all the Finnish crystal she gave me and especially the invites for my fav Finnish pancakes. We will miss you Siiri. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” - Posted by: Sheona and Dwayne Miller (Friend to Aliisa and family) on: Sep 28, 2024

I have loved my aunt Siiri, all my life - literally ... from those first years in Finland to the shared family life in Canada ... she has been the heart of every gathering, with an open door and coffee on the go ... my husband Leo would go fishing with both Siiri & Reino ... but Siiri continued the most enthusiastic angler in latter years ... she was a joy to know and easy to love ... we shared that same faith in Jesus, and we would share scripture passages and also things to pray about ... tho' tears come easily when we speak of her - there will be Joy in the Morning when we see her again ... she was a blessing ... Rest in peace Siiri Tati, in HIM who redeemed us, Saija & Leo - Posted by: Saija and Leo Parthenais (niece) on: Sep 24, 2024

Siiri will be lovingly remembered and missed. She always made me feel like I belonged in her family no different than her other grandchildren. I will miss her big hugs and that warm smile she always gave. - Posted by: Kim (Her Favorite grand daughter in law ) on: Sep 21, 2024
