Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE PATRICIA ROBERTSON
It’s with sad hearts and fond memories that we announce the sudden passing of our sister Irene Patricia Robertson on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Irene entered Grace Hospital Emergency on Tuesday, September 10 with indications of a stroke and within a few days suffered a second stroke.
Irene is sadly missed by siblings, Joan (Ray) Hammel, Dave (Barb) Robertson, Jim (Emily) Robertson and “baby sister” Debbie Kaus. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews from adult to infant: Michael and Richard Robertson, Stephen and Heather Hammel, Andrew and Gregory Robertson, Kristen and Trevor Robertson, Jessica (Matt) Grant, Kevin, Justin, Kyle Kaus and especially her great-niece and great-nephews: Ava, Theo and Liam, whom she spent much of her time with. Theo said “he was going to wish on a star that Auntie Irene came back.” She was predeceased by her parents, John and Dora; brother Bill (wife Joanne); brother George (wife Bev); brother-in-law Curly; nephews: Paul and Jayson.
Irene was born January 16, 1952, in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she lived in her first home, throughout her childhood, at 266 Roseberry Street. She attended Britannia School and graduated from St. James Collegiate. Irene was a hard worker and had many jobs starting early at a fishing lodge in Emo, Ontario, followed by decades in retail with Gambles, Zellers, and then Dollarama at Cavalier, including other locations. She was a well liked co-worker who was easy to talk to and quick to help. She remained friends with many of her work friends, after her retirement, having Thursday breakfasts at the Pancake House with them. She enjoyed her Tim Horton’s coffee, meeting her friends there daily.
Irene was well known for always having a niece, nephew or friend with her when she was out and about. She loved children and “Auntie Rene” was everyone’s favourite (she always bribed them to say that!). She paid special attention to the little ones, doting on them, and making them feel loved. She was a selfless, generous person who was always willing to help, listen and give good advice. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family. Irene’s family would like to thank everybody who has expressed sympathy for their loss at this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.

RIP Irene. Very sad to learn of your passing. You will be deeply missed. I will miss our conversations in the hall and digging out your car in the winter. You were such a kind friendly person and I am grateful for the few years we had as neighbour's and friends. My condolences to your family and friends. Rest easy old friend. - Posted by: Chad (Friend and neighbour) on: Oct 03, 2024

Growing up, Aunt Irene never missed a family get together. Whether it was a birthday, Thanksgiving or Christmas, you could always count on her to play with me and my brother Rick or share stories to keep us entertained. As I grew up and had children of my own. Any time we returned to Winnipeg Aunt Irene would always bring coloring books or little toys to keep my two kids entertained. In fact, my youngest, who is now 19 still has some of those books in a closet. They are pulled out periodically to keep other children amused and entertained. I will miss Aunt Irene. - Posted by: Mickey Robertson (Nephew) on: Sep 29, 2024

We will all miss Irene’s presence in our coffee clutch. She was such a kind person who always had kind words and deeds to share with everyone. She was especially proud when she spoke of her great-nieces and nephews and looked forward to her time spent with them. I know that her legacy will live on in the loving and kind example she set for them. As a Christian woman I know that The Lord would say well done my good and faithful servant as Irene lived her life with humbleness and grace. I will not say goodbye, but see you later as I know I will see her again in heaven and I pray for comfort for you as her family for a peace that surpasses all understanding. - Posted by: Tracey Fulcher (Friend from Tim Hortons coffee group) on: Sep 28, 2024
