Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRIS LORRAINE CHILDS
It is with great sadness that the family of Iris Lorraine Childs announce her passing.
Predeceased by her parents, Elva and Jack Kingsmill, and sister Hazel Reynolds. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years Roy and daughters, Marlynn Childs, Jackie Gabel (Randy) and Colleen Mahon (Mike), as well as her grandchildren, Kevin, Curtis, Andrew, Ty (Anastasia) Braiden (Nicole) and Cassidy.
Iris grew up on a farm in Deleau, MB, moving to Souris to finish high school. As a child she loved riding her horse, Goldie, helping her Dad on the farm and spending time with friends and extended family. In grade 12 she won a trip to Toronto with the 4H and achieved second place in the Canadian sewing competition. She was offered a job upon graduation at Singers Sewing Co. in Winnipeg where she worked before marrying Roy.
The family settled in Winnipeg (Sunny St. James). Iris was greatly involved at Deer Lodge Community Center supporting her daughters in dance and their many sporting activities. Also she spent summers wherever Roy was working on road construction throughout MB and Sask. She then worked for the City of Winnipeg as a cashier at the pools and skating rinks. The couple travelled extensively throughout Canada and the U.S. They bought a trailer and wintered in Brownsville, TX for many happy years, spending summers at their cottage at Hillside Beach, MB.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Golden Links Lodge (GLL) for their care and compassion. Mom’s happiest times at GLL were listening to music and live entertainment that was provided regularly! We were pleased to enjoy a family gathering celebrating Iris’s 95 Birthday in July.
There will be a private family Celebration of Life. You live forever in our hearts Iris, Mom, Grandma.

Aunty Iris I loved spending time at your house on Turo Street you and Uncle Roy were always so kind and patient with me. I am sorry I just saw this today and it breaks my heart I couldn’t have been there to offer comfort and celebrate what an amazing, caring, loving and inspirational woman you were. Much love and prayers to Uncle Roy and all my cousins from Edmonton. Before Bill passed we were actually talking about the time he spent with you and Uncle Roy💕 - Posted by: Heather Oswald (Niece ) on: Nov 29, 2024
