GERALDINE MARY JARVIS
Geri passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on September 28, 2024 at the age of 79 years, surrounded by many close family members.
The family wishes to thank the ICU and the Cardiology unit for the medical and spiritual care Geri was given.
Geri was born August 17, 1945, in Winnipeg. Her parents were Walter James Doyle and Marguerite Marie Kelpin. Her predeceased siblings were Patricia Tarnava, Shirley Gallagher and Rosemary Doyle.
Geri married her lifelong partner George Jarvis on October 8, 1966, at the St. Ignatius Church in Winnipeg. She is survived by her two daughters, two sons, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Geri was mainly a stay-at-home mom in the early years before entering the workforce in retail at Regal Greetings and Gifts and then as the office manager of the Block Parent Program of Winnipeg.
Geri loved coaching five pin bowling to YBC youths. She spent many hours involved in this volunteer activity. As well Geri organized community safety programs for citizen participation in the Earl Grey Neighbourhood. She was one of the founding members of the Earl Grey Neighbourhood Safety Association which is still active today.
In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

On behalf of all Block Parent volunteers, I offer condolences to George and the family. Hundreds of Winnipeggers know Geri from the Block Parent office. She was devoted to community safety and has been the driving force behind the Block Parent Program for the last 3 decades. If Geri ever called you up, she was either recruiting event volunteers or asking you to join the Board. She was hard to turn down (I speak from experience). Geri will be greatly missed. As an area resident and a City Councillor represenenting the area for 20 years I got to see Geri (and George) in action on an ongoing basis. Always there working hard on behalf of the neighbourhood, Geri was tireless, dedicated and kind. She was an exemplary volunteer. Her work with Block Parents and the Earl Grey Neighbourhood Safety Association stick out for me as true commitment to making our community better. George and family, I'm so sorry for your loss of Geri. I was blessed to get to know Geri through being a volunteer at the Earl Grey Neighbourhood Safety Association.
