Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ROSAMOND DAUN
It is with deep sorrow and profound love we mourn the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruth Rosamond Daun on October 15, 2024 at Riverview Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Left to mourn are her daughters, Lynn (Bob) Kurylko, Diane (Jim) Crowe; her grandchildren, Michael (Steph), Stephen (Carla), and Geoffrey (Desiree); and great-grandchildren, Maya, Logan, Tucker, Miguel, Emily, Nova, and Madelyn. Ruth was predeceased by her father and mother, Walter and Dorothy Christian; her sister, Mildred Sells; and her brother, Eric Christian.
Born in Winnipeg on October 13, 1930, Winnipeg remained her home for her entire life. Growing up in St. James, then settling into Fort Garry where she raised her family.
As a young woman, Ruth joined the CNR, where she met and married Jim Daun in 1953 (divorced 1972). She finished her working life after 23 years at Victoria General Hospital. Throughout her long life, through work or her interests, it was easy for her to make many life-long friends, many of whom she maintained close relationships with until her passing.
A passion of Ruth’s was the game of golf. A long-time member of Southwood Golf & Country Club for 40 years, she took pleasure in not only the game, but the wonderful friendships she formed throughout her membership. Over the years, Ruth enjoyed many interests that included curling, cross country skiing, music concerts, playing bridge, reading, and travel.
A fiercely independent woman, with a generous soul, she understood the importance of community, volunteering at the Christmas Cheer Board, Victoria General Hospital, helping with breakfast programs for children, and for many years an active member of St Paul’s Anglican Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to your favourite charity.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Riverview Healthcare Centre for their genuine kindness and exceptional level of care extended to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ethical Death Care is assisting in arrangements for a private family graveside service.

So sorry on your loss. Ruth was a great friend over the years. We worked together at CNR and I knew her sister, Millie well. I enjoyed her company when she moved here to Dakota House. A great friend and a great lady. - Posted by: Rita Leyden (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2024

I knew Ruth as a member of the “old” Southwood Golf and Country Club Ladies group. What a fun group of ladies that was. Ruth looked exactly, as she did in this photo, in those years. A lovely sweet smile, and a friendly person and golf mate. One by one all of the members of that group, are passing away, which is a sad thought. Ruth was a friend, a kind person, and an avid member of our one-time golfing group. My condolences to all members of her dear family who will miss her so very much. Lynn and Diane, I am your cousin on your father's side, Isabel's daughter. Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. Although it has been many decades since we had contact, I remember you both and your mother well. I remember spending time at your home and have happy memories of those visits. It sounds like your mother had a wonderful and fulfilling life. I hope you feel peace that she had a life well lived. Karen - Posted by: Karen (McMurray) Bell (cousin) on: Oct 19, 2024

Dear Ruth, how I will miss the monthly bridge group meetings, where you hosted such wonderful desserts. Our frequent walks with our identical boots around the complex, you volunteered to serve early morning breakfast at the local elementary school. You were stubborn and immovable in your opinions, and lived your whole life with such integrity. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Linda Watson (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2024
