We are saddened by the passing of our father, husband, grandfather and uncle on October 8, 2024.
Born on June 5, 1932, in the middle of the Great Depression during hard times, Richard enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in the beginning of 1948 at the age of 16. During his distinguished and decorated 33-year career he met and married Joyce May Mason and raised three sons on bases across Canada and Germany. After his military career “Smokey”, as he was known in many circles, continued to serve in the Armed Forces as a civilian worker for another 10 years. Retiring at 59 he continued to live in Brandon with Joyce (who passed away in 2015) and is sons for another 33 years.
Richard Morley Brotherston is survived by his three sons, Rick, Dan and Rob and his loving grandchildren, Gary, Ty, Taylor and Ashley. He will be lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Morley’s Life will take place at a later date at which time he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Morley and Joyce were dear friends and I have so many happy memories of our fun times together. I was living in Australia for a few years and was not here when your mom passed. I have since moved back to Brandon. What a wonderful pair. My sincere condolences. - Posted by: Carolyn grift (Friend) on: Oct 23, 2024
