DENNIS ALLEN ORR
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dennis Allen Orr “Orrzy” on October 17, 2024, one month plus one day short of his 75th birthday. Dennis was a gentle, intelligent, witty and stoic man who was loved by all who had the pleasure of his company.
He is survived and will be missed by his loving wife Louise Orr, and his stepchildren, Sherri Black (Palmer) and Dean (Nicole) Palmer. Dennis was also grandfather to six grandchildren, Kristi (Cam), Justyn, Ty, Bo, Chip and Cody, along with two great-grandchildren. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Maureen (Jim) Markus, nephews, Cory, Shane, Rob, Kyle, and Billy, nieces, Kelly and Darlene; as well as his in-laws and their families, Lennie, Pat (Greg), Joyce (Rheal).
Dennis developed and enjoyed friendships, interests, and activities in different circles throughout our 40 years together. However, the bonds of friendship formed as children growing up in Transcona remained the most treasured to him. Bobby Derkach (Penticton) (remained like a brother to Dennis), Rob, Gerry, Brian, and the Thursday morning Legion group brought joy to him. He will also be missed by a long-time friend, Ken Chorney, as well as members of the S&S Club, Darcy, Jim, and Randy.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, brother Ed, sister Muriel, niece Sherry and grandson Dirk Palmer.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to each member of the healthcare team involved in Dennis’ care during his time in the palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Your gentle, compassionate and professional delivery of care and caring shall always be remembered. Thank you as well to Dennis’ team at CancerCare.
At Dennis’ requests, there will be no service. However, he extends to all, an invitation to raise a cup of good cheer to Family, Friendship and Fond memories.
In keeping with his love of animals, a donation to the Humane Society or any Animal Rescue would be appreciated.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dennis over a 60 year span. Most of all, my memory of him is of his contributions to our winning and City Championship teams out of Pirates CC in the early sixties! Dennis was the kind of player all winning teams needed! He was a skilled, gifted, talented hockey player who played the game much the way he lived his life. Whether in the dressing room or quietly going about what it took to be the best contributing teammate on the ice, Dennis was there for us! He was quite frankly the grease that moved our wheel to success! Always present, always there for every practice and game and yes stoic to a fault, (a good one) even then, in the confines and camaraderie our dressing room! He would never complain, yet you intuitively knew Dennis also had your back. Without him we would not have been the successful teams we were! I am saddened to hear of the passing of our teammate and friend Dennis. My sincere condolences go out today to his wife Louise and to his family. I am so sorry to hear of Dennis's passing. We grew up together in the east end of Transcona and attended the same schools. In later years we reconnected through my friendship with his wife, Louise. I remember him well and offer my condolences to Louise and all the family. Liz - Posted by: LIz Tyndall ( wilson ) (friend) on: Oct 24, 2024
