MARIA TOBER
Peacefully, after a brief illness, our mother, Maria Tober passed away on October 18, 2024, just shy of her 92nd birthday.
She is predeceased by our dad, Alfred, and is survived by her three children, Dianne (Graham), Robert (Wendy), and Alfred (Ruben) and grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Hannah, Jackson, Simon and Toby and great-grandson, Wrynn.
Mom was born in Germany and, with few options after the Second World War, emigrated to Canada alone. It was a difficult time. After meeting her husband, Mom worked hard raising her family, tending to our home, and loving her garden. She sewed our cloths, pickled nearly everything, and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t paint or repair. There was always a huge pot of soup being made on Saturday mornings. She enjoyed fishing and foraging for mushrooms with her family. While our Mom was feisty at times, cheated at cards, made a mean cup of instant coffee, and purposely omitted an ingredient when sharing a recipe, ensuring her dish always tasted better, our Mom was our Mom and we loved her dearly. She will be in our hearts forever.
A private family service will be held on October 24, 2024 with interment at Brookside Cemetery, alongside our Dad.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1N9.
