It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon ‘Scotty’ Martin, who passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Scotty was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1943 and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 10, where he cultivated a deep love of both country and community.
Scotty dedicated his life to service, first with the Canadian Army and Air Force, proudly serving his country in both technical and security capacities. His passion for teamwork and leadership found its natural continuation in the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, where he devoted 39 years, retiring as a highly respected Platoon Chief. His calm under pressure, strong moral compass and commitment to excellence made him a well-recognized figure in the fire halls around the city.
Scotty found great pleasure and purpose in his fellowship as a Mason beginning in 1981, serving as Worshipful Master of the Red River Lodge from 1990 to 1991 and as part of the founding committee with the Khartum Shriners Skooters, contributing to these organizations with the same sense of service that defined his career. Outside of work, Scotty was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about golf, cross country skiing and cherished many fishing trips with close friends. An accomplished woodworker, he spent countless hours with his close friend Dick, taking pride in crafting with his hands. Later in life, Scotty earned his pilot’s license, fulfilling a lifelong dream of taking to the skies.
Through his marriage to Liz, Scotty became a dependable father to his two children, Theresa and Bradley, in whom he took his greatest pride. They will remember him for his integrity, his upstanding principles and passionate spirit.
Scotty leaves behind his children, Theresa (James) Redecopp and Brad Martin, his much-loved grandchildren, Chelsea and Jack Redecopp; brother Daniel (Cheryl) Graham and extended family in Scotland. His legacy of service, dedication and friendship will live on in the many lives he touched.
The family wish to thank his physician, Dr. Kristin Harris and the fine teams at Concordia Village and Golden Door for their extraordinary care.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Masonic Memorial Centre, 420 Corydon in Winnipeg on Friday, November 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Khartum Shriners Patient Transportation Fund, 420 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0N8.

Scotty was my Battalion Chief and was a great guy to have as your boss. He was fair and took care of his shift. Always enjoyed a meal with us. Even did all the dishes one afternoon at #14 because we got busy at the end of the meal and never got back to the hall for a couple of hours. Left us a nice note and paid for lunch. Blessings Chief. - Posted by: Michael W.H. Robson (Firefighter) on: Nov 08, 2024

My deepest condolences to the family, worked with Scotty at a few different fire halls and he was always a gentleman. He taught me a few things in our working relationship - always to be kind and treat people as you wanted to be treated. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Harry Salamacha (Friend ) on: Oct 26, 2024
