GLORIA BAKER

With sadness our family announces the passing of Gloria Baker, aged 91 years, on Friday November 1, 2024.

Left to mourn are her husband of 72 years, Gilbert Baker; seven children and their spouses; twelve grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gloria spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her large family. She belonged to a Sweet Adelines choral group for 45 years, where she enjoyed performing at their concerts and competitions, while forming longtime friendships. Once Gilbert retired, they had many adventures on the road in their fifth wheel trailer, travelling across Canada and the USA, both North to Alaska, and South to New Orleans.

Gloria spent many happy days at the family cottage at Deception Lake in Ontario, where she declared it to be her favourite place.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no service.

Gloria lived a long and full life.

May she rest in peace.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Gloria and I sang for a number of years in the Sweet Adelines. She shared many stories of her family (with pictures) and told us each time a new grandbaby arrived. I sincerely wish to extend my condolences to her family at this sad time. - Posted by: Shirley Christie (Sweet Adelines) on: Nov 16, 2024

  • Condolences to the Baker family on the recent passing of Gloria. Thoughts are with you Gil and family as you share memories and may these memories become more precious as time passes. I enjoyed chatting Gloria either at the lake association meetings, the BBQs, or sometimes when stopping by. The BBQ was held at the Baker cabin for many years and surly added to some of the lake stories and memories for many. - Posted by: Erika Fenske (Cottage neighbour) on: Nov 12, 2024

  • Doug and I echo Trish’s comments. We always looked for her sitting in her chair and have missed her and Gil very much. We have great memories of lake gatherings there and many visits. Sincere condolences to Gil and family. - Posted by: Elinore Loos (Cottage friend. ) on: Nov 09, 2024

  • So sorry to hear of Gloria’s passing. Always a friendly smile and wave at Deception Lake. Fondly remembered and missed. - Posted by: Gary Bergal (Cottage Neighbor) on: Nov 09, 2024

  • Don and the Baker Family, My deepest sympathies to all of you on the passing of your Mom. - Posted by: Roxanne (Millan) Burton (Former classmate of Don) on: Nov 09, 2024

  • Walking or driving by the Baker cottage, we always had an eye out for Gloria sitting in her chair in the corner of the sunroom. Arm up for a big wave. Sometimes a chat, that always included a story of her kids or grandchildren. And though not able to visit the cottage over the past few years, we still watch for that wave. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Cottage Neighbour) on: Nov 09, 2024

  • Don and Family, sympathies to you, your Dad, and your siblings and their families on the loss of your Mom and Grandmother. - Posted by: Jeff Howie (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2024
