With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth James Malek on November 4, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 74. Born on November 1, 1950, in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Ken was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle whose presence and warmth left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ken was the beloved father of his three sons - Jeffrey (Morgan), Jonathan (Marilyn), and Jamieson (Jessica) - who will forever remember him as their hero and a true example of fatherhood. He took immense pride in watching his sons grow, build lives of their own, and start families. His legacy lives on in his four grandchildren, Owen, Cameron, Noah, and Addison, who each carry a part of his spirit and determination. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Margaret, his brother Richard, and his sister Rose (Ron), and is survived by his brother Ben (Charlene) and sister Brenda (Don), all of whom he loved dearly. Ken also cherished his nieces, nephews, and cousins, who made him feel loved and part of their family.
As Captain with the Winnipeg Fire Department for 35 years, Ken proudly dedicated his career to the safety and well-being of others, embodying bravery and selflessness every day. He was a true hero, both in his professional life and within his family.
Dad loved to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to his baby boys, and it is one of their first memories of him. Life will never be as bright with him gone, but they are forever grateful to have been loved so deeply by such a remarkable man.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Golden Links Lodge and to Dr. Ball for their compassionate care and support.
A service to honour Ken’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to The Firefighters Burn Fund.
