HELEN YAREMUS

(nee CHASZEWSKI)

April 21, 1936 - November 10, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Helen Yaremus, age 88, of Steinbach, MB, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Menno Home for the Aged, Grunthal, MB, with family by her side.

Mom leaves behind her five children: Ken, Carol (Steve), Bryan (Shirley), Glenn (Wendie) and Marianne; 12 grandchildren: Michael (Chris), James (Alyssa), Christopher, Amy, Caroline (Ben), Nicole (Bruce), Paul (Isabella), Julia (Tyler), Steven, Dylan, Tallon and Brandon; seven great-grandchildren: Octavia, Marshall, Quinn, Leah, Vivian, Noah and Myles; and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased four years ago by her husband Steve. They were married for 67 years.

Mom was born to John and Francis Chaszewski of Skylake, MB, on April 21, 1936. She was the oldest of five siblings: Mike (deceased), Steve (deceased), Irene (deceased) and Daniel (Carol).

Mom married Dad on October 25, 1952, and they lived in Skylake, MB, for 30 years where they farmed turkeys, beef and grain.

After Mom and Dad sold the farm, they moved to the southeast area of Manitoba where they owned Mitchell Garage and the Zhoda restaurant/store/gas station. Thereafter, they retired in Steinbach, MB.

In the last few years of our mom’s life, she developed dementia and became a resident of the Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal.

Our mom was a very loving person who always greeted you with her beautiful smile. She adored her grandkids. She was always there for us and loved her family dearly. No words can describe how much we will miss our sweet lovely mother.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Menno Home for the above-and-beyond care and compassion they showed especially in the last days of her life.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52W., Steinbach, MB.

If you wish to make a donation, please do so to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
