It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ellen Cecile Montgomery on November 15, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 78.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James; as well as her five children and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret (Bob); and brother John (Mirella); along with their children.
A special thanks goes to Jackie, Shawn, Cy, Christine (Ken), Kenny (Mykenna) and Colin for their constant care and visiting over the last two years, when her Fabry disease confined her to bed. An extra special thanks to our private home care girl, Cathy, who worked tirelessly to keep Cecile comfortable through her pain. We would also like to thank the many nurses who came by daily to provide care. We want to express gratitude to St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for their passionate care in the last couple of days.
Cecile spent her life with dogs by her side, especially those years when she bred Boston Terriers and attended many dog shows to show off her dogs. And then quilting became her big passion. She made a number of quilts which she kept but most were given away to family. There are also many that were started but could not be completed. She was an avid reader and we have the books to prove it. The backyard above ground pool had to be set up every year so our kids and then grandkids could spend the day with her.
Cecile loved weekends at Gimli, especially when all the kids were there. In the later years she loved trips to Las Vegas and casinos but especially liked the trips to Florida. Another favourite was the Caribbean cruises. We only did a couple but those were her favourites.
The family expresses their gratitude to Ethical Death Care for their excellent guidance and support through this.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
