JUDY MORIER

(née OGSTON)

December 14, 1948 -

November 20, 2024

Judy passed away at home on November 20, 2024, after a brief decline following a decades-long struggle with scleroderma. She was lovingly cared for until the end by Ed, her devoted husband of 51 years.

Her memory will be cherished by Ed, her son Drew (Joe), grandchildren Alec, Hugo, and Lucy, and her extended family members and lifelong friends. Judy was deeply affected by the loss of her daughter Shannon in October 2023 and was predeceased by her brother Jim and her parents, James and Isabel.

Special thanks to Dr. Heather Domke and the compassionate team of the Palliative Care Program. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to Judy’s cousin Roberta for her kindness and support.

Judy was raised in Transcona and obtained a diploma in physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba. She worked as a physiotherapist for a number of years, until she gave it up to be a stay-at-home mom. When the kids were older, Judy worked a number of jobs (travelling medical microfilm technician, dental office assistant) until finding her niche as an information clerk at the front desk of the Health Sciences Centre. Her friendly face and compassionate voice helped countless visitors and callers over the years.

In her spare time Judy loved to crochet, to read, to bake, to watch trashy television, to play solitaire (on her own) and cribbage (with family during lively get togethers). She enjoyed musicals and live theatre. She volunteered as a member of the executive of the Transcona and District Pipe Band and was a constant presence at band practices, parades and competitions throughout her children’s pipe band careers.

Judy was diagnosed with scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disorder, in her mid-40s. The disease slowly but surely took its toll. Judy remained cheerful, determined, and feisty throughout, exceeding all expectations for longevity and quality of life. In her later years she and Ed enjoyed travelling with friends, spoiling their grandchildren, and driving each other crazy in their new apartment.

Judy was renowned for her thoughtfulness and consideration, never missing a milestone or event in the life of someone she cared about. Judy will be fondly remembered for her razor sharp wit and irrepressible sense of humour. Although she hated being the centre of attention, she was often the life of the party.

Judy will be missed, but we are grateful for our time together.

A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on Monday, December 9, from 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. at the Transcona Golf Club, 2120 Dugald Road.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy’s memory to Scleroderma Canada or the charity of your choice.
