KORA MARKUSA

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Oma, and sister, Kora Markusa (nee Oosterloo), on November 24, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital after a second battle with cancer.

She is survived by her son Dean (Michelle); daughter Michelle (Rossel); sister Jeanette; brother Ed (Barbara) and her grandchildren, Erica, Ashtyn, Kobi, Andre, Jordan, and Madelaine. Kora was predeceased by her husband Raymond; her brother Kees; her sister Marjianna; her father Eeltje and her mother Koopje.

Kora was born in Workhum, Holland on March 19, 1947. This is where she spent the first 10 years of her life with her family before moving to Winnipeg. She was always proud of her Dutch heritage and tried as hard as she could to keep her roots to the culture. Upon arrival, she and her family nested in the Fraser’s Grove area. This is where she met Raymond. The two of them tied the knot at an early age and moved to the then-smaller community of Transcona. This is where they would set strong roots and spend the next 50 years of their lives. Kora spent her whole life giving whatever she could to her children and grandchildren. She was often seen and heard at every baseball, hockey, and ringette game. Whether it was to coach, cheer, or participate, she did her best not to miss an event. Kora could also be found spending her time at the shop that she and Ray built from the ground up. She spent endless hours there and developed a strong passion for classic cars and cruise nights. Known for her great sense of humour, this is where she and Paulette would get into the most trouble and love every minute of it. Those two were a pair known for making their own fun.

We would like to thank the healthcare team in the palliative unit at St. Boniface Hospital for keeping her as comfortable as they could for the last month of her life.

A celebration of her life will be held in her honour on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Highway.

  • So sorry for your loss Dean, Michelle, and all of Kora’s extended family. I have many found memories of my time spent with you guys on Camrose Bay. Kora was a big influence through my teen years. She was always someone who spoke her mind and didn’t mind calling you out when you needed to be. And trust me, when we were teens, we needed to be called out. Often. I’ll be eternally grateful to her for doing so. It’s been many years since I spent anytime with Kora, but she will alway live large in my thoughts and memories. My deep condolence to you all. • So sorry to hear of Kora passing, I will always remember her a very funny quick witted friend. We first met many years ago thru hockey as I coached against Ray and eventually became friends with them both which carried on for over 40 years thru sports or our car and (business) life. I will never forget the times we had wish it was more often but life always in the way when family and work is so key in our lives - Posted by: Cliff wurtak (Friend ) on: Dec 07, 2024
