LUCILLE MARIE THURSTON

December 19, 1933 -

December 4, 2024

Peacefully on December 4, 2024, Mom passed away with her children by her side. Mom was 15 days shy of her 91st birthday. Mom is predeceased by her loving husband Jim; son Greg; three sisters; and three brothers.

Left to cherish Mom’s memory are her children, Derrick (Shannon), Michelle, Todd (Lori); daughter-in-law Miriam; her grandchildren, Rikki (Travis), Shae, Brett (Taylor), James, and Erik. Along with her sisters, Ella, Helene, Agnes; and brothers, Marcel, Louis, Paul, Rollie; and many nieces and nephews.

Mom shared an incredible bond with Auntie Ella, not only sisters but best friends. Mom often told Ella she was her hero. Mom was so thankful to have Auntie Helene in her life, she was always ready to listen and help. We are so indebted to Auntie Helene for everything she does, the biggest thank you wrapped in a loving hug. Auntie Aggie, Mom knew she was in your thoughts and prayers, and when you were able to you were there. Uncle Louis, Uncle Paul, Uncle Mars, and Uncle Rollie, all of you entertained Mom with your stories and jokes, the love and laughter you gave her through your many calls brought so much joy to her. Louise, thank you for facilitating “Saturday Afternoons at Ella’s.”

To all of the family and friends who called, stopped by, dropped a line; thank you, Mom appreciated all of you and the time you took to share memories and say goodbye.

We will miss her silent strength, beautiful smile, and grace.

Mom – Saying goodbye to you is so incredibly hard, how do you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume and then let them go?

We would like to thank the River East Palliative Care Team, the staff at Seven Oaks 4th Floor Unit 6, and the Maid Team.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A private interment has taken place. A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held in the New Year.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Dearest Lucy…Beautiful inside and out. Idon’t know of a single person who met lucy who did not like her. Lucy’s goal in life was to make everyone happy. Her daughter Michelle inherited that caring quality and welcomed her mom into her home and cared for her lovingly for over two years. Lucy dealt with tragic situations in her life but did so with such courage that she was an inspiration. Lucy and her sister Ella studied with father pat from Ireland. They developed a deep spirituality and became soulmates where meditation guided their lives. They worked at CN Telegraphs. Lucy married Jim Thurston and they spent several years in Saskatchewan before returning to Winnipeg with their 4 kids. In later years Lucy worked at Canada Packers Credit Union where she became manager. Lucy’s 4 children were so precious to her she took several parenting courses and was workshop facilitator. I became close friends with Lucy and will miss her forever. Rest in peace Lucy. forever loved and never forgotten. Repose en paix. On t’aime chère lucille. Namastae. - Posted by: Helene Bulger (Sister) on: Dec 26, 2024

  • I was lucky to be a friend of the Thurston family for a number of years. I have many memories and pictures to reflect back on, Lou and I had a great time together and I missed her when we parted ways. So many good times with lots of laughs. I didn't know where to contact her after a number of years and I had moved to Edmonton in 1988. I do have some pictures if the family would be interested in me sending them via email. Sincere condolences to the family. I thought of you many times Lou. - Posted by: Eileem Asselstine (friend) on: Dec 16, 2024

  • Michelle and family; we are saddened by the news of your Mom's passing...your Mom and Dad (and you) were the absolute best neighbours we could have ever been blessed with! Two other sad days was when your Dad passed and then when your Mom moved...we would run into your Mom every now and then and I always enjoyed our quick "catch up" chats...your Mom's voice/telephone call was the last outside our family that I heard the day my Mom passed...the comforting words and actions have never been forgotten...hold close in your heart your special and happy memories and may they help lessen the pain of your loss...I'm certain your Dad was waiting for your Mom with welcoming arms...Heaven has gained another Angel! - Posted by: Delsey and Cathy Graf and Family (Long time neighbours/friends) on: Dec 14, 2024
