WALTER CWIK

(1959-2024)

Surrounded with love by his wife and children Walter passed away peacefully on December 10 after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane and daughters Samantha (Travis) and Alyssa. Also to mourn his passing are his brothers and sisters, Irene (Joe), Ed, Judy, Rick (Pat), Christine (Royal) and Stanley (Jean). He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Walter was predeceased by his parents Mary and Frank, his brother-in-law Harry and sister-in-law Penny.
Dad grew up in Winnipeg but set his roots down in the country in St. Andrews after meeting our mom. Dad had a love for his career at Manitoba Hydro where he worked for 35+; years. He made many lifelong friends.
Our Dad was an exceptional man. He made an impact on the lives of everyone he met. He displayed tremendous strength, had a heart of gold and a whit that could make anybody laugh. He had a love for his wife and daughters, also known as ‘his girls’ that was unlike anything. It gave him such joy seeing his family happy. Dad was always willing to help out any family member or friend. There was no task he would turn down. If you called him, he was there. Dad was always a bright light in any room. His main goal was to make you smile and laugh, which he always succeeded at. Our Dad had a love for sports. You could always find him in his Winnipeg Blue Bombers or Jets gear watching a game, shouting at the TV acting like the head coach.
Dad loved travelling with his family and creating lifelong memories. In recent years he started a new hobby of making videos while at different destinations. He called himself ‘The Intrepid Traveller’. His videos were often educational, humorous, and very adventurous. He would always have to find the best vantage point to make his videos. This normally entailed him climbing alongside a waterfall or going to the very edge of a cliff, being sure to freak us out just a little. If Mom and Dad weren’t travelling, you would find them at the cabin in Gimli. Dad enjoyed finding new projects to tackle, walking on the beach and spending time with our mom.
We would like to thank everyone who came to visit our dad, reached out, or had him in your prayers. We would also like to thank the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their care and support.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in our Dad’s name to a charity of your choice.
Dad, you left far too soon but left enough memories to last us a lifetime. We love you with all our hearts and will cherish you always. May you finally rest peacefully.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Walter was a familiar and welcome face at Hydro's Maintenance shop. It was easy and enjoyable to collaborate with him as we came up with ways to repair equipment and, hopefully, make things better than they were originally made. Working with someone as intelligent and pleasant as Walter was a great experience. He made the world a better place and did it with humour and humility. My condolences to his family at this time of loss. - Posted by: Dwayne Dosch (friend and co-worker) on: Dec 21, 2024
