THOMAS (TOM) ERNEST LEWICKI

April 6, 1954 - December 20, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we advise of Tom’s passing after a devastating diagnosis of brain cancer 10 months ago.

He is survived by his devoted and adoring family - wife Cindy; son Evan; daughter-in-law Melissa; and his much-loved Mexican rescue pup, Digby. Also mourning his loss are his brother Robert (Krystina) and family; as well as many close friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Tom was born and raised in Winnipeg to parents Stephanie and Ernest Lewicki. He was a north-end boy who was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. He loved books of all kinds and was a voracious reader his entire life. His intellect was vast, and few people could match his breadth of interests. He was a walking encyclopedia of little-known facts and was always regaling friends and family with his detailed knowledge of the world around us. He was an enthusiastic raconteur who enjoyed imparting his wisdom to those he loved.

No one could ever find a more loyal and thoughtful friend than Tom. He took great interest in the lives of everyone he cared for and was always there to lend a hand if asked. His quick wit was infectious and kept us all on our toes. He loved photoshopping silly pictures for his friends, and especially for his beloved Evan. His talent for photography and photo editing was exceptional and provided him with countless hours of enjoyment.

In between his work in the communications, sales and writing professions, Tom travelled the world with Cindy, including trips to Africa, South America, Great Britain, Europe, Mexico, California and Hawaii. Most of these trips involved hiking or walking adventures that were a delight for Tom and allowed him to practice his photography skills.

In recent years, his greatest joy was the family cottage at Hillside Beach. He was so proud of our little compound that he worked tirelessly to improve. He has left us a family legacy that will always remind us of what an amazing husband and father he was.

Tom was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. We will love him and miss him forever. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. He left us far too soon.

We would like to thank our friends and family who have supported and loved us during the difficult months since Tom’s diagnosis. Special mention to Gay and Lorne, and Gisela and Roland for their assistance during the final days of Tom’s life.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes, there will be no service, but please raise a glass in his honour and share stories of the wonderful man he was. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Martha Street Studio or Riverview Health Centre in memory of Tom.

  • Cindy and Evan, I'm so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. Cindy, I loved your stories of the incredible trips and adventures that you and Tom shared. What a beautiful life and memories you created. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Michelle Wallace (colleague) on: Jan 01, 2025

  • So sad to hear of Tom’s recent passing. It’s been a number of years since I last saw Tom but when we were growing up we were best friends from the time we were 4 years old well into our teens. We weren’t Tom and Tim back then but Tommy and Timmy. We lived only 2 doors apart on Arlington St in Winnipegs north end and did everything together. Whether it was walking to Faraday school or Isaac Newton, riding our bikes, playing at Sinclair park, going to movies, reading comics, making snow forts or walking down the train tracks we did it all together. Although Tommy was 8 months younger than me I learned so many cool and interesting things from him as he read everything. In addition to being quite learned he also had a good sense of humour and was a very good singer. We both loved music and buying 45’s. I still remember the first record he bought was Mellow Yellow by Donovan from England. We were so lucky growing up at the time of the Beatles and the British Invasion. Although I haven’t seen Tom for a number of years I look so fondly upon our early friendship and think of him often. I still share stories of Tom to my family in Calgary where I’ve lived since the mid 70’s. My sincere condolences to Cindy and Evan and younger brother Bobby. - Posted by: Tim Gracel (Friend) on: Dec 30, 2024

  • We’re so saddened to hear of Tom’s passing. Our deepest sympathies to Cindy and Evan. We haven’t seen each other for many years, but I have many happy memories of times spent playing with Tommy and Bobby at the house on Arlington and at Auntie Helen’s place at Christmas. It was a coup when the adults’ table was taken over by the kids on Christmas Eve. He was always a mischievous and creative soul, inventing games and escapades that I will cherish forever. A fellow foodie and appreciator of the fine things life had to offer. He left us far too early. Pat and family. - Posted by: Pat Lewicki (Cousin ) on: Dec 28, 2024

  • Cindy/Evan so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. He was one of the most unique and interesting people I ever had the pleasure to know. We shared a love of trivia and facts of the world around us, never at a loss for conversational topics. His memory is with all who warmly rememberour time with him. - Posted by: Harlan Mushumanski (Friend/colleague) on: Dec 28, 2024

  • My husband Allan and I were very saddened to hear of Tom's illness and death. Although we have not seen each other in years, we spent many family celebrations together in our youth. Tom was a very precocious child with the ability to amaze adults by doing things like taking apart a clock and putting it back together. He was quite brilliant. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy Cindy and Evan. How very sad for you to lose Tom so soon. Marilyn. - Posted by: Marilyn Dolenko (cousin) on: Dec 28, 2024

  • Worked with Tom for years at Image Color. Many great times with Tom. He was definitely the friendliest person with everyone. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Cindy and family. - Posted by: Keith McLennan (Mac) (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2024

  • Our sincere condolences to the family. We knew Tom growing up at St. Nicholas Youth Club, he was a funny and kind person, lots of fun. Saved our lives swimming to shore to get help when our sailboat collapsed on Lake Winnipeg, thank you Tom. - Posted by: Jeanette and Orest Horechko (friend) on: Dec 28, 2024
