MARION (LOUISE) KERNESTED
In loving memory of Louise Kernested, who passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Teulon, Manitoba, leaving behind a legacy of service, love and dedication to family and community.
Mom was born and raised near Opawaka, Manitoba on the family farm with her parents and two siblings. After earning her Bachelor of Home Economics from the University of Manitoba, she began her career with the Manitoba Department of Agriculture in Ashern, where she met her husband, Gordon. As Gordon's partner in life and business, she managed the books for their multiple enterprises, attending to the details that allowed their shared dreams to flourish with his creative thinking and approach.
Their commitment to community service found its expression through, the Stonewall Legion Branch #52 and the Stonewall Lions Club, where like Gordon she served as Club President and later was honoured to be District Governor for the 5M-13 region. Her dedication to the Lions Eye Bank, collecting and sorting eyeglasses even as her own sight failed, exemplified her passion for this important cause.
As a mother, she understood that her family was her greatest contribution to the world. With quiet strength, determination and wisdom, she taught her sons the dignity of hard work, and the foundations to become good men, fathers, and partners. She and Gordon instilled in them the understanding that true success lies not in individual achievement, but in positive impact on family and community.
She was predeceased by her beloved Gordon and is survived by her sister, Elaine (Barry); brother, Jim (Mae); and her sons, Carl (Adrienne) and Leigh (Candace), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon, where she spent her final weeks and the physicians at CancerCare Manitoba, Health Sciences Centre and Stonewall Hospital who took care of her in these final years.
We also want to thank the Stonewall Lions Club and Lions Manor for their support and care. These organizations played vital roles in her life, particularly after Gordon's passing.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall Manitoba.

We met Louise and Gordon through Lions Club International. We instantly recognized their care and concern for others and their abilities to make things happen. We were most pleased to recommend Lion Louise towards governorship and are sad to learn of her passing. - Posted by: PDG Lion Josip & Lynn Lecnik (Fellow Lions) on: Jan 09, 2025

Condolences to the family of Louise, we have known her and Gordon before they were married. Shirley was brought up in the same area as Gorden and Louise came to Ashern, Mb and met Gordon and the rest is history. We later met up when we all moved to Stonewall, Mb And eventually I joined the Lions club and worked with Gordon and ended up moving to the Lions Manor as neighbours. I worked with Louise as well when she became a Lions member. Louise had a very poor experience with her health the last years of her life and was a very strong lady but lived life to what she could and never complained.
