GORDON (KEN) KENNETH HILTON

June 21, 1927 - December 23, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, aged 97.

Dad was married to Evelyn for 65 years before her passing in 2015.

Dad leaves to mourn sons, Al (Lesley) and Don (Karen); grandchildren, Riley, Brittany (Derek), Brant (Rhiannon), Callie; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Tavin, Beau, and Benji.

Born in Winnipeg, Ken grew up with his parents and six siblings in the West End and attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He is survived by his brother, Ernie. As a youth, he participated in many sports including hockey, baseball and competitive cycling.

Ken started his working career with J.H. Ashdown Hardware Company where he held various positions eventually becoming assistant sales manager. In 1963 he entered the Manufacturers Agency business as a partner in the firm of Kameen-Hilton-Wankling Ltd. with offices in Winnipeg and Calgary. They would later establish offices in Edmonton and Surrey, BC. Dad was an extremely hard worker and was very respected by vendors and customers. He was a great mentor. He also served as President for North West Commercial Travellers’ Association of Canada in 1967.

Outside of work, Dad liked spending time with his lifelong friends. He spent many years with Mom at their cottage at West Hawk Lake entertaining family and friends. He was always up for a good game of Hearts or Cribbage and enjoyed playing Bridge. Mom and Dad spent over 20 years wintering in Palm Springs.

Dad valued the competitive nature of sports. He was an avid golfer and life member of Niakwa Country Club. For many years during the winter months, he was a member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club and was President in the 1967-1968 season. Dad had many curling accomplishments, but he was most proud of winning the Provincial Masters Curling Championship in 1988. He enjoyed his years with friends at both clubs. He was also a big TV sports fan and enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren compete in all sports that they played.

We love you Dad and you’ll be greatly missed.

We would like to thank the staff at Southeast Personal Care Home for looking after Dad the past few years. Your care and thoughtfulness are much appreciated.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held later.

  • Enjoyed Ken and Evelyn's company when we went to Palm Springs. Ken was very protective of his handicap when we played golf with several friends from Niakwa, wonderful times and Great Hosts when having us all for dinner. Also use to invite an old friend Milt Carrigan for a golf game at Niakwa and he use to call Ken, Slidee and tease him about his curling Powess. A great guy, kind generous and respectful and very proud of his family. May he RIP. - Posted by: Tom Johnstone (Friend) on: Jan 04, 2025
