ALEXANDER WILLIAM BUDNICK

1937 - 2024

Alexander William Budnick, with his son and family by his side, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at Seven Oaks Hospital.

Alexander was born on February 25, 1937, in Winnipeg, MB one of five children of Alexander and Mary Budnik. Alexander grew up in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg attending Norquay School and St. John’s High School to very fond memories in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

Alexander began his career at Winnipeg Motors before moving to Winnipeg Transit where he worked from 1964 to retirement in 1994. During his 30-year tenure at Winnipeg Transit Alexander would continue his education, attending Red River Community College, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. Alexander would retire from Winnipeg Transit as the foreman of the paint and body shop, he was a strong proponent of the city’s transit system and proud of the innovations and improvements that were made during his career there.

Alexander was active in multiple bowling leagues in the city and especially proud of his association with St. Joseph’s Men’s Club bowling league where he was a member for several decades. Alexander was very active in both the Point Douglas and North End communities where he resided. He would form and participate in, several resident groups in the North End; in Point Douglas where he grew up Alexander was a member of the organizing committee for Norquay School’s 110th anniversary/reunion and a parishioner of St. Andrews Church.

Alexander battled multiple illnesses later in life and was grateful for the support he received from doctors, nurses and especially other patients he formed a bond with at Seven Oaks dialysis Unit 2. The family would like to thank Dr. Sean Armstrong, Dr. Claudio Rigatto, Dr. Sara Dunsmore, Dr. Tunji Fatoye and Dr. Nolan Finlayson for treatment and support of Alexander as not only their patient, but a person undergoing difficult treatments. The family would also like to thank Peter Price and family for the support provided to Alexander.

Alexander was extremely close to his family, predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Mary; his sister, Ann Hart (Cookie) whom he cherished as his baby sister and his brother, George Budnik whom he considered a father figure. Alexander is survived by his sister Margaret Didenko whom he made godmother to his son Jason and sister Irene Robinson to whom he was closest growing up. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Jason, his nieces Debbie Mazur, Janis Klassen, Susan Budnik-Pilon, his brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
