WARREN ROBERT HINGLEY

May 14, 1941 - January 4, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the death of Warren Hingley. Warren passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on the morning of January 4, 2025.

He was predeceased by his parents, Warren and Edith and his son Michael. He is survived by his wife Louise, and his children, Reg (Sonia), Heather Anne (Steve), Susanne (Mark), Heather (Alex), Allison (Jason), Jennifer (Mike), and Robert (Robin). He leaves to mourn his sister Chris (Billy), brother Paul (Bev), grandchildren, Tim, Ocean, Ireland, Riley, Elliot, Oliver, Vincent, Claire, and Huxley, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Warren was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia to Warren and Edith Hingley. He was raised in Kemptown and Antigonish. He attended St. Francis Xavier and Pine Hill, where he studied theology. He worked in several small churches in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Gaspe Coast. He met and married his first wife Shirley (nee Sinclair) and they raised their children in Nova Scotia.

In 1969 he moved to La Tuque, Quebec to become a teacher. There, he met and married Louise (nee McKellar). They enjoyed downhill skiing, playing guitar and harmonica, as well as many teacher get-togethers. In 1973 he began work as a principal in the mining towns of Gagnon and later, Schefferville. Warren and his family enjoyed being outdoors cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and building a log cabin. They would always spend most of their summers at the cottage in Cape George, Nova Scotia, a place dearly loved by Warren, his children and grandchildren. Warren extended his passion as a photographer by setting up a photo-developing club with several friends in the school. He passed his love of guitar and photography on to his family.

Throughout his teaching career, Warren enjoyed working with Indigenous students. So, in 1977 he and his family moved west where he became principal of the school in Peguis, Manitoba. He loved his job and stayed there for ten years. Warren made many lifelong friendships during his time in Peguis. He developed a love for gardening and building projects (such as a greenhouse and kayaks). Warren went hunting and fishing with local friends and spent many summers camping around Manitoba.

In the fall of 1986, Warren and his family relocated to Ste. Anne where he continued his work as principal, eventually moving to Winnipeg where he was a principal in three schools before retiring. During this time Warren continued his gardening passion in the country and later at Riverview Garden Society in Winnipeg. He loved playing folk songs on his guitar and harmonica and often attended Folk Fest with friends Jim and Karen Wastasecoot.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway.
