ELAINE ROSE CRAWFORD (KRYNOWSKI)

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Elaine Crawford on January 1, 2025. After a long and courageous battle with cancer and COPD, Elaine passed away with her family by her side.

Elaine leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Tara, (Real); grandchild, Savannah and son, Terry, (Kerri-Lynn) and grandchildren, Aidan and Jaina.

Born and raised in Weekes, Saskatchewan, Elaine moved to Winnipeg and was employed at the University of Manitoba in custodial for over 35 years. As a single parent, Mom mostly had two part time jobs in addition to her full-time work to provide for her children. Her unwavering teachings of independence, working hard and to be self-sufficient were invaluable traits.

Elaine had a passion for projects and took great pride in her home, self taught carpentry made for many projects that were truly remarkable. Her love for animals and nurturing were traits instilled in her children. New pets could always be found. An avid gardener, she had an amazing beautiful garden. Mom had a green thumb. And there was always a place for a new plant. She was a music lover, great songs could always be heard. Later she taught herself to play piano. Mom enjoyed travelling, taking trips to Europe, Wales, Indonesia and the U.S.

Rarely, was a hockey, ringette, football, ballet, or baseball game missed. We don’t know how you did it, but you did. You are in our hearts forever and never a day will pass that you are not in our thoughts. For all you sacrificed for us, we will spend all of our days making you proud.

A special thank you to Lise Dupuis, Mom’s longtime friend. Thank you for all your care and support and time you gave to care for Mom in our absence. To know that she had you there was comforting for us. Also, thank you for your continued care of Nero, Mom’s beloved cat.

A special thank you to Mila Rodriguez for all your home cooked meals and visits to Mom at home.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m., 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D’arcy’s Animal Shelter, 1076 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 3R7.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I first met Elaine while working at the University of Manitoba. My job as a service tech. would take me through the Agricultural Complex where Elaine worked as a caretaker. There were often peals of laughter and great hilarity among the staff there. This of course was occasioned by our friend Elaine who could see humour in just about anything! We became good friends during that time and after her retirement. My late wife Louise also became friends with her. During our trip to my home in Wales, she immediately fit in with my relatives and friends and to this day they still speak fondly of Elaine and were saddened to hear of her passing Goodbye, Dear Friend and Rest in Peace. • My sincere sympathies to Tara and Terry. I am lucky to have had a neighbour like your mother. Your mom was a very independent woman with a strong work ethic. We shared the love of animals, nature and ‘shiny things’. I am grateful for all her help she provided me when I broke my ankle 7 years ago. I could always count on her for emergencies and also to take loving care of my cats. She was more than a neighbour, she was like an older sister. I appreciated her sense of fun and adventure. She was a woman with a generous spirit. She admired and cheered on young people, especially those who would try to strike out on their own in business or any other adventure. She thought that it was so neat that they had the confidence to make it happen. Friends who heard about her passing said that they were sadden because they appreciated her company whenever she came to Sunday lunches at Stella’s. They said she was lovely and fit right in the group and that she would be missed. We had a lot of adventures together. I will miss her greatly, Lise - Posted by: Lise Dupuis (neighbour) on: Jan 16, 2025

  • I send my deepest condolences to the families of Tara and Terry, and to Elaine’s closest friends. Unfortunately, I was unaware of her health issues, as we had not spoken for some time, but she was my Aunt and I can appreciate her presence in my life. Truth be told, I am forever grateful to her for stepping in and picking me up when I was 14 years old after I had gotten myself into a wee bit (or a lot) of trouble. She will be remembered for her quick wit, crazy sense of humour, many furry babies (Pomeranians’ and cats) and her fiercely independent nature. Rest in peace. And thank you!
