IRENE KWASIUK

(nee KRUPNIK)

On January 10, 2025, Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep.

She is survived by her son, Lenny; sisters-in-law, Emily Deneka, Jean Lewicki, Francis (Walter) Chobotar and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter; parents, Peter and Mary Krupnik; grandparents, Michael and Anna Klym; her in-laws, Stefan and Mary Kwasiuk, Nettie and Paul Smolinski, Metro Deneka and nephew Vaughn Chobotar.

Mom was born on August 6, 1934 in Fraserwood, Manitoba. She attended Fraserwood Elementary School, Teulon Collegiate and United College (U of W). She graduated from Teacher's College and taught school for 24 years. During her career, she taught in Okno, Ledwyn (Tarno), Shorncliffe and for 14 years at Riverton Elementary School.

Mom and Dad were married September 3, 1955 and moved to Sioux Lookout. They soon returned and bought Dad's parents' farm in Ledwyn. As well as her teaching, Mom worked with Dad on the farm especially during the summer, raking hay and hauling bales. She also had a large garden and there was always a lot of canning and freezing going on come fall. Mom was a member of the Arborg St. Philips Ladies Aid for many years. She was a member of the Arborg Hospital Auxiliary where she served for a time as President. She really enjoyed delivering "Meals on Wheels".

Mom enjoyed cooking and she and Dad prepared large "Ukrainian style" meals at Christmas and Easter for many years, for gatherings with family and friends. Those were fun times for her. After retiring to Arborg, Mom and Dad's morning would always start with enjoying coffee with their friends at the Co-op or Chicken Chef. Mom enjoyed travelling and she and Dad took many trips together throughout Canada, the US and a couple trips into Mexico. She also had a lot of fun going on day trips to the Casino with Dad and their friends.

Later on in Mom's life, many people were involved in her health care. I would especially like to thank all the staff at the Arborg Hospital, Home Care, Mary Thorarinson Assisted Living and the Arborg PCH for all the incredible care and kindness they showed to my Mom.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Hall, Silver, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to the charity of your choice.
