Suddenly on January 16, 2025 one week shy of his 60th birthday, Stephen passed away at his home due to complications of diabetes.
He is survived by his heartbroken mother, Joanne Hill (Keewatin, ON); stepfather John Hill; and his beloved fur kids, Jack and Luna. He was predeceased by his father Neal Sawatzky.
Though born and raised in Winnipeg, he spent as much time as possible at his family's cottage on Coney Island and in Keewatin with his mom most weekends lately. Stephen loved bacon, fluffy pillows, RC Cars, V.W.'s Studebakers, and his much-spoiled cats. Though his size and bald head could intimidate, he had the warmest heart and gave wonderful bear hugs.
Untold gratitude goes out to his dear friends, Pat and Katherine Wolfe, Craig Perry, and Christy for their caring and support at this devastating time.
Donations to the Kenora Cat Shelter (Kenora) would be most appreciated.
Cremation has taken place, and he will return to his beloved lake in the spring. A Celebration of Life will take place in the summer.

Josey contacted me just shortly after the fact. I was going to call him the actual day it happened but decided to wait for his birthday. I miss him. I did actually shed a tear. I'm thinking I met Stephen when I was 12, 45 years ago. Sorry - Posted by: jeffrey assailly (friend) on: Feb 01, 2025
