SISTER RITA HAMEL


Sister Rita Hamel passed away at Actionmarguerite St-Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 93. She was a member of the religious Congregation of the Missionary Oblate Sisters of St. Boniface for 75 years.

Rita was born in Gravelbourg, SK, on May15, 1931. Her father, Philibert Hamel, was born in Winnipeg, and her mother, Clara Vachon, was born in Oak Lake, MB.

She leaves to mourn her passing the members of her religious Congregation, her brothers Guy (Daniel), Denis (Judy), Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest (Mary), Eugène (Louella Johnson), Jean, Gérard (Gracia Legros), and her sisters, Marguerite, m.o., and Elodie (Gérard Brisebois).

Eulogy will be on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 1:15 p.m., in the chapel at Villa Aulneau, 601 Aulneau, Winnipeg, MB. Mass of resurrection will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the same address. Mgr. Noël Delaquis will preside the celebration.

Interment of the ashes will take place on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.

Lundi, le 20 janvier 2025, S. Rita Hamel fit son entrée à la maison du Père à l’âge de 93 ans. Elle était membre de la Congrégation des Missionnaires Oblates de Saint-Boniface depuis 75 ans.

Rita naquit à Gravelbourg, SK, le 15 mai 1931. Son père, Philibert Hamel, était originaire de Winnipeg, et sa mère, Clara Vachon de Oak Lake, MB.

L’ont précédée dans la mort, ses parents, ses frères Ernest (feu Mary), Eugène (feu Louella Johnson), Jean, Gérard (feu Gracia Legros), et ses soeurs, Elodie (feu Gérard Brisebois) et Marguerite, m.o.

Elle laisse dans le deuil les membres de sa Congrégation religieuse, ses frères, Guy (Daniel), Denis (Judy), et Raymond, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.

L’éloge aura lieu mardi, le 28 janvier 2025 à 13h15 à la chapelle à Villa Aulneau, 601 rue Aulneau, Winnipeg, MB. La messe de la résurrection sera célébrée le même jour à 13h30 au même endroit. Mgr. Noël Delaquis présidera la célébration.

L'inhumation des cendres aura lieu au Cimetière St-Boniface, rue Archibald vendredi, le 31 janvier 2025 à 11h00. La direction des funérailles est confiée au salon Mortuaire Cropo.
