DORIS FOSTEY

(nee SLUSAR)

May 26, 1923 - January 21, 2025

The gardens in heaven will bloom brighter with the passing of Doris Fostey on January 21, 2025, at age 101 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Doris grew up with three sisters on the family farm near Roblin, Manitoba.

She was predeceased by husband John, granddaughter Samantha Owen, parents, Mike and Sophie Slusar (nee Midzian) and sisters, Nettie Sheremeta, Olga Zarazun and Anne Styba.

Doris will be fondly remembered by her children: sons, Ted Fostey (Lorie) of Calgary, Jack Fostey (Kathy) of Yorkton and daughter Judy Owen (Bruce) of Winnipeg.

She was proud of granddaughters, Michelle and Laura Owen. Jack and Kathy also blessed her with granddaughters, Jennifer and Wanda and grandson Ken, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was heavily involved at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral.

She moved into Holy Family Home in February 2014 and received compassionate care, especially from staff on Unit 4A. Heartfelt thanks to companion Emily Kosack, who deeply cared for Mom.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I remember her dedication to her Church. She often took the bus to attend services and afterwards we often drove her home when she lived on Jefferson. She was very energetic and feisty. Deepest Sympathies from the Ratynski family. - Posted by: Ray Ratynski (Member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral) on: Feb 01, 2025

  • Working at Fostey's was one of my first jobs in high school. Used to look forward to Saturdays working with Doris and all of the girls serving up fresh meats and hot garlic sausage right out of the smoke house. Rest in Peace Doris - Posted by: Shelley Demery (Former Employee) on: Jan 25, 2025
