Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHARINA (FUNK) KREBS
God called our angel Katharina home on January 13, 2025.
She is lovingly remembered and deeply mourned by her beloved husband of 61 years, Ken; daughters, Caroline and Tina Krebs; grandchildren, Alexandra, Reed, and Rachel Forrest; sister-in-law Anna Funk, niece Jennifer Funk, nephew Eric Funk; and other special friends and family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Helen (Berg) and Abram Funk, brother Arthur Funk, and many other Berg, Neufeld, and Funk relatives with whom she is now reunited.
Katharina was born on June 21, 1937, in the village of Varvaroka, Ukraine, and her only sibling, Arthur, was born one year later. In 1944, her family fled Ukraine to escape the advancing Red Army. They emigrated to Canada in 1948 and lived briefly in Saskatchewan before settling permanently in Winnipeg in 1950.
She met her soulmate, Ken, in 1961. They married in 1963 and welcomed the arrival of their daughters in 1965 and 1968. Katharina was a devoted and supportive wife and mother, whose love and boundless energy sustained her family through many difficult times.
Motivated by her deep faith in God, Katharina was very active in her Central and Elmwood MB church communities, kind and generous with family, friends, neighbours, and people she only met by chance.
In 1978, Katharina began a happy twenty-year career with Edison Properties, where she developed many lasting friendships.
After her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2016, Katharina continued to actively engage with family and friends until her health began to decline more rapidly in 2020. Until her passing, she was lovingly cared for at home by Ken and her daughters, alongside the wonderful health care aides, palliative care nurses and doctors without whom Katharina could not have remained at home.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Please consider a donation to the MCC or WRHA Palliative Care Donation Fund c/o Health Sciences Foundation, PW112 - 700 William Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0Z3.
