MARIA LEGENY

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maria Legeny (nee Göttli) on February 10, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born on October 7, 1949, to parents Mihály and Anna (nee: Frikker) Göttli in Hercegkut, Hungary.

She is survived by her brother Laszlo (Adrien). Maria is survived by her former spouse András and was a loving mother to her son Andrew. She was predeceased by two children, Giselle (Tom) and Maria, sister-in-law Adrien and great-grand-child Thomas. She leaves behind grand-children Stephanie, Joshua (Ally), Quintin (Halli), Matteo (Samantha), and Daniel. She also leaves behind a legacy of many great-grandchildren: Jake, Hannah, Charlotte, Penelope, Vienna, and Eliana.

She was a devoted Godmother to Laszlo (Kinga), Sylvia (Kevin), and Michael (Julianna) and great-Aunt to Sarolt, Sára, Emese, Ceileigh, Michael, Nicholas, Marcella, and Natalia. Maria had several relatives in Canada and around the world, including Hungary.

Maria had a strong personality with a loving heart. She had an impact on every person that she interacted with. Maria was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny, joyful and a testament to loving any neighbour or friend. She always made sure everyone’s belly was full of her rich cooking that includes her famous lángos. Maria enjoyed time spent playing card games and bingo with friends and family, as well as the occasional visit to a casino. She was an active member of the social group in the building where she lived. Her greatest joys were the accomplishments of her children. Maria was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and practiced her Catholic faith very deeply. She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s League and a cherished member of St. Anthony’s Leisure Club.

Maria’s life will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass on February 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church (250 Burrin Avenue). Following the service, cremation will take place, and interment will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
