It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George James Pashnyk, age 85. George peacefully departed this life on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Brandon Hospital surrounded by his loving wife, Carol, daughter Sandra, and son-in-law, Kelsey Schoonbaert. George was a devoted husband and father with a big heart.
George was born July 16, 1939, on the family farm in the R.M. of Kreuzburg (Wpg Beach Area) to Nick and Lena Pashnyk, the second of five children.
George’s working years were spent at Brooke Bond Foods and Lipton (Unilever), a total of 41. 5 years in Winnipeg, Regina, and Brandon. It was in Winnipeg he met Carol, the love of his life and spent nearly 61 years of marriage.
In July of 1971, they were blessed with the most beautiful, wee gal, Sandra Lee. When Sandra was five, they added to the family with a furry friend, a toy poodle named Holly. When looking for a puppy, George would try to cut a “deal” if he bought 2 or 3. Once he came home with two Papillons, Cookie and Chrysie. George grew up on a farm and loved animals.
Over the years, the family did some travelling, enjoyed a camper trailer, then a cottage at Clear Lake. For their 50th Anniversary, they shared a wonderful cruise with Sandra and Kelsey.
George retired in 1998, enjoyed a trip to the Dominican Republic with friends. He loved spending time on the golf course, fishing, hunting, watching many sports, breakfast with friends and trips to the casino. In the retirement years, George and Carol moved to the lovely little village of Chater, enjoying the golf course nearby, and many wonderful neighbors and families.
In the fall of 2024, George’s health took a rapid decline and spent the last 6 months in the hospital and Valleyview Care Home. We thank everyone for George’s care and concern, cards, treats, and visits.
George is survived by his beloved wife Carol; daughter Sandra; son-in-law Kelsey; and grand dog, Reka. Also many family and friends.
May George rest in peace. He will forever be loved and missed for the love he gave freely. There will be no formal funeral. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
